Honor is preparing a phone with a battery of 11 000 mAh and it’s not a gaming model: the Magic Series 9 is expected to come in three versions

Honor will unveil the Magic 9 lineup on September 28 in Beijing, and Chinese pre-orders are now open. While the company has only shared the design and cameras so far, a new leak reveals how many models the lineup will include and what will set them apart. And there’s one surprise inside: a battery phone with 11 000 mAh, which doesn’t belong to the gaming series.

Three models instead of the usual pair

According to a Chinese insider going by the name Smart Pikachu, whose leak was brought by GizmoChina, the lineup will include the base Magic 9, the flagship Magic 9 Pro Max, and also Magic 9 Super Power Edition. That third one is the new addition to the portfolio. It’s not a gaming model from the Win series, because it also has a telephoto lens and a significantly larger battery.

All three models share the main thing that Honor is bragging about this year: a collaboration with the film brand ARRI and the cameras that go with it. The base model and Pro Max are even said to get two 200-megapixel sensors, which is still an unusual combination today.

How the models will differ

The base Magic 9 is rumored to feature a 6.37-inch display, an 8,000 mAh battery, and last year’s chip Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Besides a pair of 200-megapixel sensors (one of which is expected to be a periscope telephoto lens), tipster Digital Chat Station also attributes to it a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader. The body is said to be made from a single piece of glass.

The Magic 9 Pro Max goes up almost across the board: a 6.8-inch display, an 8,800 mAh battery, and most importantly a brand-new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Its body will be all-metal, with bezels around the display said to be just 0.98 mm, and the phone will also get a Black Diamond panel promising a deeper black shade and higher brightness. The base model won’t get this display — its bezels are said by another source to be even a bit thinner.

The most interesting one is the Super Power Edition model. With the same 6.8-inch display size, it’s supposed to offer a refresh rate of 165 Hz, a fiberglass body, active cooling, and a battery with a capacity of 11,000 mAh. You pay for it with cameras and a chip. Instead of a 200-megapixel setup, it should have a combination of 50, 12, and 50 megapixels, and it’s also expected to come with the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as the base model.

What Honor has already confirmed on its own

The launch date and design aren’t leaks. Honor shared them on its Chinese Weibo profile, along with the green Moss Green version and a large rectangular camera module. The confirmed pair of 200-megapixel sensors is also joined by a new lens attachment with a focal length of 500 mm, which complements the existing 200 mm attachment. These attachments can be seen on the official photos above as well.

For us, the key point is that this is so far a China-only launch. Honor is sold in our market as usual, and the Magic series typically reaches Europe with a few months’ delay, in a narrower set of models and at a higher price than in China. Whether the Super Power Edition model with the biggest battery will also come to us remains an open question for now.
