A shower head is a gadget nobody thinks about—until hard water, dry skin, or brittle hair shows up at home. ALTHY SF500 is an attempt to fix it all at once: an interchangeable filter with activated carbon is inserted into the handle, and the nozzles themselves create so-called nano bubbles that are supposed to turn water into a gentle mist. The ALTHY brand is a Top Brand on AliExpress, and its official store has 97% positive ratings.

What customers say—plus the less pleasant parts
The rating is currently holding at 4.4 out of 5 with twelve reviews and almost a hundred units sold. A buyer from Chile ran their own test with a DPD reagent and, after installing the shower head, the chlorine smell disappeared—hair is said to feel softer since then. A customer from Poland praises fast shipping, the stop button, and three-level pressure control, saying the standard mode is more than enough. A buyer from Canada likes the build quality most and liked the mist mode the most.
It’s also fair to mention the criticism that shows up in the reviews. Two buyers find the price too high considering the body is plastic. A reviewer from Israel points out that the filter insert is fairly small and wouldn’t expect miracles from it, and also warns that customs fees were added to the price—when importing from China, you should factor that in. So if you’re looking for a device to soften hard water, read the next section carefully.
What the filter really captures (and what it doesn’t)
Inside the handle there’s an insert made of activated carbon fiber, supplemented with a folded microfilter. The manufacturer claims it captures up to 99% of chlorine and chloramine, plus sediment, rust, some heavy metals, and over sixty contaminants from tap water. Chlorine is often the most common reason why skin itches after a shower and hair feels dry—and that’s exactly the area where activated carbon really works.
Important clarification so you don’t buy something else than you expect: the carbon filter does not remove limescale or soften hard water. For that you need entirely different technologies using ion-exchange resin. SF500 handles chemical and mechanical impurities, not the calcium and magnesium content. If your home has extremely hard water, the shower head can help with how your skin feels, but it won’t remove scale buildup on faucets.
Nano bubbles and three flow modes
The marketing hook is nano bubbles—the manufacturer talks about 7.6 billion bubbles with a size under 0.001 mm. Thanks to these dimensions, they’re said to reach pores and hair follicles, where they help with cleaning and hydration. In this mode, the water feels like a gentle mist and is noticeably cooler than in a normal stream, which the manufacturer also points out.
You can switch between three modes: nanobubble, standard, and pulse. The last one is designed to massage your scalp. The rotating ring on the shower head changes the mode, while the second one acts as a stop button—you can stop the water right in your hand, which comes in handy when lathering. According to the manufacturer, this combo roughly doubles the pressure and at the same time saves up to 59% of water.
Who it makes sense for
SF500 makes the most sense in an apartment building or a city where tap water is heavily chlorinated, or if someone in your home has sensitive skin or eczema. It’s also great for low water pressure—narrowed nozzles make the same flow rate feel significantly more powerful.
On the other hand, if you get water from your own well without chlorine, the filter won’t do much and you’re mostly paying for the water-flow modes. Also factor in running costs—filter inserts need to be replaced regularly, which is why we added a pack with three pieces to the price box. The manufacturer’s photos comparing skin “after 60 days” should be taken with a pinch of salt—it’s a marketing presentation, not a clinical study.
