Quick summary

  • China launch on October 13
  • Air drag coefficient of only 0.197 Cd
  • Up to 1 008 km according to CLTC, about 820 km WLTP
  • Charge from 10 to 97% in 9 minutes

On October 13, BYD will officially launch Da Han EV on the Chinese market—the new flagship limousine that will sit above the existing Han in the Dynasty lineup. Pre-orders already started in August at an auto show in Chengdu, but only now, ahead of the premiere, have aerodynamic and consumption figures been revealed that explain the model’s long range. According to the CarNewsChina portal, citing China’s Autohome, the Da Han drag coefficient is only 0.197, and with rear-wheel drive it will cover up to 1 008 km on a single charge according to CLTC.

A five-meter sedan with record-low air resistance

Da Han measures 5 256 mm in length, is 1 999 mm wide and 1 510 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3 130 mm—so by its dimensions it belongs to the large executive sedans. Despite that, BYD has compressed the air drag coefficient to 0.197, which is among the lowest figures among mass-produced cars. Together with the efficient powertrain, this is the main reason why the Da Han can go so many kilometers on a single charge.

In the official images BYD shared in July, you can see a smoothly sloping roof with a chrome trim line running from the front pillar to the rear lights. The front is decorated with a narrow light strip with the Da Han name in Chinese characters. A LiDAR sensor protrudes from the roof—standard across all versions.

Battery 102,3 kWh and charging in nine minutes

All versions will get the second-generation battery Blade with LFP chemistry and a capacity of 102.3 kWh. The base version with a rear drive has a motor rated at 370 kW and 500 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds. Its official consumption is 11.5 kWh per 100 km, which translates into the aforementioned 1,008 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. According to CarNewsChina’s estimate, in the stricter WLTP cycle it corresponds to roughly 820 km.

The same drivetrain and range also come with the richer Flagship rear-wheel-drive version, which adds equipment for passengers in the back. The most powerful Da Han gets two motors producing 570 kW and 910 Nm, with which it sprints to 100 in 3.3 seconds. The trade-off is consumption of 13.1 kWh per 100 km and a range that drops to 880 km under CLTC. On compatible high-power chargers, the battery will charge from 10 to 97% in nine minutes, according to BYD.

Rear wheel steering and LiDAR in the base equipment

When it comes to chassis equipment and driver-assistance systems, BYD makes no distinctions between versions. Every Da Han comes standard with rear-wheel steering, reducing the turning radius to 4.95 meters, and a twin-chamber air suspension system DiSus-A. The God’s Eye assistance system with a LiDAR sensor can handle navigation-assisted driving on both highways and in the city, and it can park independently.

In addition, for the first year BYD also takes responsibility for defined damages from accidents that occur during urban navigation-assisted driving or automatic parking, provided the driver follows the usage conditions. The system still falls under level 2+, so the driver must remain attentive and is responsible for driving.

Cabin with 31 speakers and leather trim

In the middle of the dashboard is a floating 17.3-inch 3K display running the DiLink 300 system with an AI voice assistant. Sound is handled by French Devialet with 31 speakers in a 7.1.4 setup, some of them built into the headrests, so the driver and passengers can each listen to something different.

The seats are upholstered in nappa leather, the front seats feature a zero-gravity position, and the equipment is rounded out by active cabin fragrance and dimmable tinted rear windows. Alongside the electric version, the Da Han is also due to get a plug-in hybrid later, but pre-sales for that model have not started yet.

Why BYD needs a new Han

Pre-sale prices range from 249,900 to 299,900 yuan, which works out to roughly €33,000 to €40,000. BYD will announce the final price list at the premiere and wants to hand over the first cars to customers within two weeks of the launch. BYD needs a new Han because sales of the current one are falling sharply. According to CarNewsChina, BYD sold just 2,997 units of the regular Han in China in August, down 61.4% year on year, and only 205 units of the larger Han L.

In Slovakia, BYD has officially been selling since April 2025, but among its sedans you can only buy the smaller Seal here, which started at 45 690 € when it launched. BYD has not yet announced an official European launch for the Da Han, so any comparison with prices here should be taken with caution, since Chinese prices do not include customs duty or European taxes.
