Stable construction and direct drive for a realistic riding feel
ThinkRider X2Max is a direct-drive trainer, so the rear wheel comes off and you attach the bike frame directly to the trainer hub. Thanks to the pyramid-shaped base, the ride is very stable, and during sprints or when standing on the pedals, the structure doesn’t wobble or twist. All rotating parts are hidden under a cover, so children or pets can’t reach them.
On the aluminum frame, there’s a practical carrying handle. The whole body weighs about 16 kg, so you can carry the trainer to another room with one hand or put it away when you’re not training. The manufacturer notes that one of the thru axle adapters is already installed directly in the device at the factory, so you won’t find it separately in the package.
2000 W output and climbing simulation up to 18 %
ThinkRider X2Max can simulate gradients up to 18 % and, during sprints, delivers an analog power output of up to 2000 W, which is more than enough even for strong cyclists. When riding into a “virtual hill,” the resistance increases automatically based on the route profile in the app, and on flat sections you can train with consistent time trials.
At the heart of the trainer is a custom DER dynamic electromagnetic braking system that responds with thousands of calculations per second. Resistance changes are smooth and without delay, so transitions between climbs and descents feel natural, and your training is much closer to real riding on the terrain.
Accurate measurement of power, speed, and cadence
The manufacturer states that power measurement accuracy is ±2 %, which is also the standard even for much more expensive trainers and standalone watt meters. That way, you can manage interval workouts, FTP tests, and gradual form improvements without needing any additional hardware for your bike.
The newer version of ThinkRider X2Max also adds a separate cadence metric. That way, the trainer shows you a complete set of data—power, speed, and pedaling frequency. You don’t need an extra cadence sensor or speed sensor on the rear wheel—everything is transmitted directly from the trainer via ANT+ or Bluetooth.
A quiet operation that won’t disturb your neighbors
At a simulated speed of around 30 km/h, the manufacturer measured noise at only approximately 56 – 57 dB. That’s about the level of normal conversation, so an evening workout shouldn’t disturb the rest of the family—or your neighbors behind the wall. And when using road tires on your bike, you also won’t hear the typical whirring you get with classic roller trainers.
A closed mechanism with a belt takes care of smooth operation and minimizes vibrations. Even under higher loads and during sprints, the trainer feels solid, without unpleasant resonance or metallic sounds—which is a big plus when riding in an apartment or at home.
Compatibility with popular apps and ERG mode
ThinkRider X2Max has built-in ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, so you can pair it with most training platforms without any issues. The manufacturer lists support for apps like Zwift, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, Onelap, Kinomap, BKOOL Cycling, Wahoo systeamX, FulGaz, and its own ThinkRider app.
An ERG mode is also a must-have, where the trainer automatically adjusts the resistance so you can hold your target power regardless of the gear you’ve selected. This mode is ideal for structured intervals, zone training, and FTP tests—when you want to focus only on pedaling, not on shifting.
Support for both road and MTB bikes, and for different numbers of gears
You can attach a road or mountain bike to the trainer. The manufacturer explicitly states that ThinkRider X2Max is also suitable for MTB, so you don’t need a special “trainer” road tire. In the box, you’ll find the necessary adapters and reducers, with one thru axle adapter already installed from the factory.
When it comes to drive compatibility, a 7-speed cassette can be used, but you’ll need to add 1–2 extra spacers. For 12-speed setups, SHIMANO 12V is compatible directly, while SRAM 12V requires an XDR freehub body, which you can order separately. The cassette isn’t included, so you can either use the one from your bike or buy a separate one just for the trainer.
Calibration, software, and warranty
To keep power measurement as accurate as possible even after long-term use, the manufacturer recommends regular calibration. It’s done using the ThinkRider Tools tool, which you download from the manufacturer’s official website. The process is simple, runs via Bluetooth, and even less experienced users can handle it.
For the trainer itself, you get a 2-year warranty. After it expires, you can still order replacement parts and repair components directly from the manufacturer—so you don’t have to worry that ThinkRider X2Max would be “written off” after a few seasons due to a minor malfunction.
