In this article, we’ll neatly go through all available specs and information about the smartphones, including the design and prices. If you’re a Huawei fan, this article is exactly for you.
We’ll get 4 smartphones
The Mate 40 family will include 4 devices. The base model is called Huawei Mate 40, its upgraded sibling is Huawei Mate 40 Pro, we’ll also see the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ model, and the lineup wouldn’t be complete without the specialty Mate 40 RS Porsche Design.
From the available information, we have at least some specs for the cheapest Mate 40 model. Mate Pro, Pro+ and the Porsche edition haven’t stayed under wraps—thanks to active leaksters, we have a lot of parameters at our disposal.
Design variants
As for the actual external build of the smartphones, they definitely won’t deviate from current trends. With all models, we’ll likely see a curved OLED display with a dual cutout in the top-left corner.
As we mentioned, the display will be OLED. The expected size is around 6.76″, and we expect at least Full HD+ resolution—plus an elevated refresh rate in the form of 90 Hz.
The rear sides are different instead. They’ll differ in the camera module, but for the Porsche edition also in the design of the back panel. None of the models will be missing protection in the form of Corning Gorilla glass. Expected color variants can be found below.
- Huawei Mate 40 – black, white
- Huawei Mate 40 Pro – black, white, silver, yellowish-orange, green,
- Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ – black, white
- Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design – black, white

The Porsche edition comes with a combination of matte and glossy ceramic surfaces. In the center of the device, the PORSCHE DESIGN inscription will be front and center, while the brand name will sit at the bottom. The massive octagonal module with 5 sensors has found its place here too.
Performance you don’t need to be ashamed of
Huawei has packed the best it currently has into the Mate 40 series smartphones. The Kirin 9000 processor is true flagship-class hardware that won’t be embarrassed even after years of use.
This processor is manufactured using the latest 5 nm technology—one also used by American Apple in the smartphone processors of the 12 series. ARM Cortex-A77 with a clock speed of 3.13 GHz is the main core; three more A77 cores at 2.54 GHz support it, and finally you’ll find four power-saving ARM Cortex-A55 cores at 2.04 GHz.
The Mali-G78 graphics chipset will offer up to 24 cores ready for the most demanding graphics operations. And, of course, growing support for 5G networks is still there. Performance won’t be a problem—no question about it. As for memory, we don’t know the exact configurations yet, but it will definitely include 512 GB storage and 12 GB RAM.
Cameras from Huawei
Let’s pause for a moment on the camera section. Huawei brand fans definitely know that the company consistently lands at the top of the rankings year after year thanks to its top-tier camera systems. We believe this year won’t be an exception.
In the opening lines of the article, we mentioned that we don’t know much about the base model. On the other hand, what we do know is the configuration of the more expensive models. Below, you’ll find the camera sensor parameters listed clearly again:
- Mate 40 Pro – main 50 MPx f/1.9, 5-times periscope telephoto lens 12 MPx f/3.4, wide-angle lens 20 MPx, f/1.8, ToF, laser autofocus
- Mate 40 Pro+ – main 50 MPx f/1.9, 3-times optical zoom 8 MPx f/2.4, 10-times periscope zoom 8 MPx f/4.4, wide-angle lens 40 MPx f/1.8, ToF, laser autofocus
- Mate 40 RS Porsche Design – main 50 MPx f/1.9, 3-times optical zoom 8 MPx f/2.4, 10-times periscope zoom 8 MPx f/4.4, wide-angle lens 40 MPx f/1.8, ToF, laser autofocus, temperature measurement sensor
Remaining specifications
The expected Mate 40 smartphones will support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and navigation systems like GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS.
Leaks suggest that the pre-installed system on the smartphones will be Android 10 instead of Android 11, which definitely wouldn’t be the most fortunate move. Of course, it will come with the latest EMUI 11 custom skin. All models except the base one will be powered by a 4400 mAh battery with very fast 65 W charging.
Estimated prices
Even when it comes to prices, we only have information about three of the most premium models. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro will go on sale with pricing starting at €1100 / 1 303 $, the Pro+ model will start at €1400 / 1 659 $, and the premium Mate 40 Porsche Design will be available for €2500 / 2 962 $.
