The Huawei Mate 40 series is highly anticipated this year as well. This series is known for delivering cutting-edge technologies. This year won’t be any exception. A well-known leaker revealed some key specs for the new smartphone models in the series, and says the so-called liquid lens technology will finally be available commercially.
Mate 40 series coming soon
The leaked information was provided by a leaker with the nickname Teme, who is known for leaking information from Huawei. In a post on his Twitter published a few days ago, he revealed key details for two smartphones in the new Mate 40 series, with the codename "Ocean" and "Noah.
According to the leaker, the model will be „Ocean“, which is supposedly a classic Mate 40, 6,67-inch curved display supplied by LG Display. The display should support a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
It should come with a main 50 MPx sensor along with a 20 MPx ultra-wide camera and an 8 MPx telephoto lens. The phone will also have an autofocus laser module.

The second device, called „Noah“, should be the Mate 40 Pro or Mate 40 Pro+ smartphone. Leaks say there will be a „waterfall“ display again, supplied this time by LG Display together with BOE.
Just like the standard version, it will have a display refresh rate of 90 Hz. Under the hood, there should be a new processor Kirin 9000.
A new camera technology
When it comes to cameras, we should expect to see a new technology. The main 50 MPx sensor will be equipped with liquid lens technology. Liquid lens technology was only patented by Huawei a few months ago.
This technology enables faster autofocus and better image stabilization. However, previous leaks said this technology would show up in smartphones only sometime next year—when the Huawei P50 model is released.

It seems that Huawei had it ready already for the Mate 40 series, even before the patent was granted. The leaker says he doesn’t believe the technology is ready for mass production and commercial use. So we should take this information with a grain of salt.
Along with the 50 MPx sensor, there will also be an 80 MPx Cine camera, a periscope lens, and a ToF sensor. Battery capacity for the Mate 40 series is said to have topped out at 4300 mAh, 4600 mAh, and 5 000 mAh.

The upcoming models should be Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro+. The leak also says the smartphones will have a special in-display sensor for 3D Face ID.
