OnePlus Z

The OnePlus brand has become popular mainly thanks to its upper mid-range smartphones, which compete with flagship models at an affordable price. Today, it brings flagship devices and even recent models OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro that are priced close to competing flagship models from other brands.

That could be the reason for the lower interest from users, despite the very solid technical specifications. While the OnePlus 8 model starts at 699 € / USD in the official lineup, the 8 Pro model goes up to 899 € / USD. That price already includes some flagship models from well-known manufacturers.

OnePlus has also tried success in the market with a mid-range or upper mid-range smartphone, for example the OnePlus X. Now it’s time to introduce its successor, and it could be a smartphone called OnePlus Z.

It has only just been leaked through the popular GeekBench service, which tests smartphone performance—thanks to that, we also know some of the technical specs. GeekBench doesn’t reveal the name, but it does reveal the device’s code name, which in this case is OnePlus AC2003.

The record indicates that the upcoming device includes the chip Qualcomm Lito, pointing to the Snapdragon 765G model. The device is also expected to come with up to 12 GB RAM and support for Android 10. As for the results, in the Single-Core test the device scored 612 points, and in the Multi-Core test it later scored 1955 points.

MediaTek or Snapdragon?

However, according to previous leak information, the OnePlus Z model should have come with the competitive MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset. But the report from the GeekBench team says something different. There’s also a possibility that we’ll see two smartphones—one of them being the Z model with a MediaTek processor.

In this case, new options also open up for the device’s pricing strategy. The more expensive model with the MediaTek flagship processor could launch at around 400 – 500 € / USD, while the second, toned-down model with the Snapdragon 765G chipset (and the leaked codename AC 2003) could be priced at 300 – 400 € / USD.

These options are still, however, at the stage of leaks and theory. The fact remains that, combined with excellent software and one of the best-optimized graphics overlays on the market, an affordable OnePlus could indeed be a serious competitor for other Chinese manufacturers as well.

Don’t forget the Snapdragon 765G processor either, which was among the first to bring 5G network technology to mid-range devices. This processor is manufactured using a 7 nm architecture, and you can currently find it in several smartphones along with the Adreno 620 graphics chip.
