OPPO is joining the “AirDrop club,” and for owners of their new flagship phones it’s a pretty big deal. Google initially made Quick Share pairing with Apple AirDrop available only for Pixel 10 family members, later expanding it to other of its own devices. In recent days, it then hinted that the same feature will also come to select Androids from other manufacturers — and OPPO has now officially confirmed it’s going in too.
Specifically, this applies to the OPPO Find X9 and Find X9 Pro models. They’re set to receive a software update sometime during this month that will enable the connection between Quick Share and AirDrop. In practice, that means that when you have one of these phones, you’ll be able to send files to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac almost as easily as if you were transferring data between two Android devices. The upcoming OPPO Find X9 Ultra is also expected to have the same compatibility, and it’s anticipated in the near term.
OPPO explains it pretty clearly: without having to install third-party apps, users should get convenient—and at the same time secure—file transfers between OPPO smartphones and iOS, iPadOS, or macOS devices. The goal is simple: better cross-platform collaboration that has often been unnecessarily complicated so far.
The background to the whole feature is also interesting. OPPO says it’s been working directly with Google and MediaTek on it. That makes sense, since Quick Share is primarily Google’s solution for sharing on Android, and MediaTek supplies chipsets for a large part of the phones on the market.
Until now, OPPO used its own approach—an O+Connect app that enabled sharing even with iPhones. The catch was that on the iPhone or Mac side, an extra app also had to be installed, otherwise it simply wouldn’t work. This new Quick Share integration is therefore much more user-friendly, because it removes the most annoying extra step. You just pick a file, hit share, and you’re done.
