To wrap up the year, Qualcomm pleasantly surprised us with a brand-new chip for mobile devices, the Snapdragon 888. Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865, you can look forward to a 25-percent performance increase for the CPU, as well as a 35-percent boost for the graphics accelerator.
Of course, nowadays, a high-end chipset can’t miss support for the latest mobile networks of the fifth generation (5G), enhanced aspects of artificial intelligence, or advanced image processing capabilities.
The fact that the Snapdragon 888 is truly a top-tier processor is underlined by the 5 nm manufacturing process. The new chip is suitable for practically all user groups – from mobile gamers to developers and those who care about the quality of their photos.
The question, however, is whether 8 will be a lucky number for American Qualcomm. After all, it decided to name its flagship chip truly symbolically. We’re bringing you a short table with the key parameters of the new chip, where you’ll learn more specs of the announced novelty.

The new chip is strong in multiple areas
When it comes to connectivity, we’d also like to mention 5G support again. FastConnect 6900 technology also includes WiFi 6, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. It also includes the Bluetooth LE Audio wireless audio transmission standard. For gamers, there’s Snapdragon Elite Gaming, coming along with Qualcomm Game Quick Touch.
These are features that enable high touch responsiveness. In the case of gaming at a frame rate of 60 fps, it’s a 20-percent improvement, while players of titles that support 120 fps can look forward to a 10-percent boost. It’s not an extremely dramatic leap, but we’re glad it happened at all.
Snapdragon 888 also allows additional improvements in the smartphone photography capabilities area. The chipset can process three concurrently recorded videos in 4K resolution and HDR. The same applies to creating photos. At one moment, three photos can be processed at once in 28 MPx resolution.
