The design is made of plastic, but it’s very sturdy, and it’s literally covered in physical control buttons, including directional buttons, volume controls, and A/B/X/Y switches you’ll recognize from in-game controller layouts.
A quad-core processor with ARM Cortex-A53 cores ensures smooth performance, and it’s also complemented by a dual-core Mali G31-MP2 graphics chip. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) handles internet connectivity, and you won’t miss out on your favorite wireless accessories thanks to built-in Bluetooth 4.2 technology.
Operating system and connectivity: plenty of games, plus TV output
The console from Anbernic comes with its own “open source” operating system based on a Linux distribution. However, it’s a simple graphical interface consisting of folders where you’ll find individual games. You can sort them into favorites, access the history, search among games and files, and there’s also the option to tweak the console’s settings itself.
The interface is in English, and inside you’ll find roughly 5000 classic gaming titles. Naturally, as a secondary feature, this device also offers a music and video player—you can read your e-book titles here, as the console is ready for it thanks to the built-in apps.
We have to say that the operating system itself worked smoothly, and we didn’t run into any issues when launching it or even during actual gameplay. You get multiple profiles for saving the current state of your games, and there’s also a not-at-all insignificant option to customize the environment for advanced users.
Battery life, connectivity, and accessories: USB-C is a welcome plus
When it comes to connectivity, you get two USB-C ports right away (1x data port, 1x charging port). There’s also a miniHDMI for instant output to your TV, plus a 3.5 mm audio jack for sound output to wired headphones.
The basic storage has 64 GB, and it’s made using a microSD card on which both the system and the games are stored. However, there’s also one more empty slot. You can buy a version with additional games on a separate microSD card—on our base version, this slot was free, and you can fill it in. You’ll also appreciate the pair of stereo speakers, even though the sound is just the basic kind.
Inside this device, there’s a 3300 mAh battery that you can charge using the modern, universal USB-C connector. According to official data, this console should offer up to 8 hours of entertainment on a single charge.
We tested it thoroughly even with more demanding titles, and at maximum speaker volume—the resulting battery life was more like 6 – 7 hours. But if you save on Anbernic a bit, you can still reach the promised 8 hours.

If you’re looking for an emulator of classic gaming titles that come, for example, from well-known consoles like PS1 or PSP—such as classic Spider-Man, the original Gran Turismo, GTA Vice City Stories, or Crash Bandicoot—with the Anbernic brand, you definitely won’t go wrong.
This Chinese manufacturer has plenty of experience in producing and optimizing these types of emulators. It’s really up to you whether you choose a cheaper version (in terms of height), or something a bit more expensive—but more convenient – in terms of width.
