Review: ANGWATT T1

Our editorial rating is based on product testing.

Pros
  • high power up to 6000 W with a top speed of 85 km/h
  • a steering damper for reducing wobbling is included in the package
  • a pair of chargers for faster charging
  • a decent range on a single charge thanks to a 60 V / 35 Ah battery
  • front and rear turn signals
Cons
  • high weight
  • displays are hard to read in direct sunlight
  • inaccurate distance measurement

We tested a powerful electric scooter with a total output of up to 6000 W, ANGWATT T1. It’s a very similar model to the DUOTTS D88 we tested last year, or other well-known scooters like Laotie Ti30 or BOYUEDA S3.

In the review, as always, we’ll look at build quality, riding characteristics, performance, and range—but we’ll also focus on what makes it different from the models mentioned above and what’s new.

Quality and package contents

You can expect the ANGWATT T1 electric e-scooter in a large, heavy box. The package dimensions are 131 x 26 x 50 cm with a total weight of 51 kg.

In the box, the scooter is folded with the handlebars removed and some other components taken off. It’s protected by foam inserts—there are quite a lot of them—so it arrived completely undamaged.

Just like with the DUOTTS D88, the accessory set with additional components is attached to the foot platform using a transparent film.

Specifically, besides the scooter itself, you’ll find a pair of chargers, a fender, a tool kit, a display, a controller for the LED lighting under the chassis, and even a steering damper.

So the package is truly packed. We really appreciate that the manufacturer includes a steering damper and a pair of chargers already in the standard bundle for faster charging.

Assembly isn’t exactly quick.

Even though it doesn’t look like it at first, assembling the scooter together with all the components included took us quite a bit of time. Once you take it out of the box, you just unfold the handlebars and start assembling the handlebar section, attach the rear fender, the display, and the turn signals.

It sounds simple, but overall you need to tighten quite a few screws—some of them aren’t easily accessible—so it takes a bit of time.

The easiest part is installing the handlebars. You just slide the handlebar stem with the handlebars onto the main vertical tube and tighten the two screws. However, almost all the screws on the handlebars are left loose, which means we can quickly adjust the angle of the brake levers, the throttle controller, and the switch for the different riding modes.

Unlike the other similar e-scooters we mentioned in the introduction, the manufacturer also includes a large central display with the ANGWATT T1. It has its own spot on the handlebar stem. After you mount it, don’t forget to plug the cable into the empty connector. There’s only one of those here, so you can’t go wrong.

Another nice bonus is the steering damper, which we installed right away as well. The scooter already has mounts for it, but we had to gently rotate them so we could seat the damper correctly.

We then moved on to the rear fender, and finally we secured the four turn signals in their places.

Design, build quality, and upgrades

At first glance, the e-scooter looks completely identical to other similar models we probably don’t even need to name anymore. But when you take a closer look at the ANGWATT T1, you’ll notice several improvements.

The new model doesn’t have folding handlebars, but fixed, curved ones. We like this improvement because folding handlebars still tend to loosen and rattle uncomfortably during rides.

Another upgrade is a pair of front turn signals, plus another large display in the center of the handlebars. The fender has also changed—it looks like it came from a Batmobile and neatly covers the entire rear wheel, because it’s exceptionally wide. However, you don’t lose the rear foot deck nor the carrying attachment.

A bonus is LED lighting on both sides of the chassis with the brand logo, and the package also includes a controller. With it, you can choose different backlight colors or multiple effects.

As for the materials used and the build quality, the construction is just as solid as in similar scooters and is made from iron and an aluminum alloy. The whole scooter feels massive and high-quality right away, which is also reflected in its high weight. Still, it consists of many parts—everywhere you look you’ll see screws and nuts, which may not appeal to everyone.

Unfortunately, that also showed during testing: several screws and nuts loosen while riding, so we have to tighten them. We recommend using thread-locking adhesive and gluing all such screws, and using lock nuts with a rubber insert everywhere where they aren’t already present.

Wide handlebars with multiple displays

Unlike similar e-scooters with the same design, the ANGWATT T1 does not have folding handlebars. Instead, they are fixed and adjustable only in height across three levels – 96 / 104 / 112 cm from the platform you’re standing on.

The handlebars are 73 cm wide and curved with ergonomic grips. Unfortunately, they tend to rotate fairly easily, which isn’t ideal.

On the left side of the handlebars, you’ll find the rear brake lever along with the key switch, the headlight switch, the turn signal switch, and the horn control. There’s also a small display that shows the current battery voltage.

On the right side, you’ll find the front brake lever, the ECO / turbo mode selector, single / dual, along with the TF-100 display, which has an integrated throttle control lever.

We personally don’t like this control very much. What’s more, it’s placed too close to the brake lever, which makes it harder to use these levers when you need to be close to them. Since the handlebars are angled, there’s hardly any room to move the throttle lever farther away from the brake lever.

In the middle of the handlebars, on the stem, you’ll find the third and largest display. It looks great. It shows your current speed, battery voltage, the status of the turn signals or lights, and the distance traveled. It’s basically duplicate info that the throttle lever display also shows, but this one is significantly larger. The weird part is that the data on these displays don’t match completely, even though the differences aren’t big.

The downside is that none of these displays is easy to read during a sunny day. We wouldn’t miss this third big display at all, especially since it’s positioned too close to the rider—so the manufacturer didn’t pick the best spot.

Uncompromising power up to 6000 W

A big, powerful e-scooter deserves high performance—and that’s exactly the case. The ANGWATT T1 has two motors, each delivering a maximum power of 3000 W, giving the scooter a total peak power of up to 6000 W.

With this kind of performance, it reaches a top speed of 85 km/h. In reality, we didn’t quite hit that speed. The display shows it, but according to GPS we went up to a maximum of 79 km/h.

There are 3 speed modes and dual / single modes (driving with one or two motors), plus choices for ECO and turbo. With these modes, we can regulate top speed and power quite nicely.

The ECO mode provides a top speed of 25 km/h, but we don’t believe that, after the new legislation comes into effect, anyone would be fooled into thinking this e-scooter only goes 25 km/h. Not really.

In turbo mode, you enjoy high power and a noticeably higher speed. There’s also a big difference between single and dual modes. Personally, we wanted to get the most out of the scooter, so we mostly rode it in turbo mode combined with dual drive from both motors. In the city, we were fine with the second speed level, but outside towns and villages, or when climbing hills, we switched to the highest mode.

The ANGWATT T1 has uncompromising power, and in the highest mode with dual-wheel drive it’s literally a beast on two wheels. We like that it accelerates smoothly, yet you can still feel that massive power surge. Acceleration is excellent, but since we mostly rode on roads, we probably would have appreciated road tires more.

Comfort while riding and suspension

As we mentioned, the scooter is sold with off-road tires, but it rides better on roads. You can’t really cheat physics, and with small 11″ wheels, it will never be ideal off-road. Dirt paths are still manageable, but on rocky roads it really shook us up.

On the roads, though, the ride is very comfortable and potholes and uneven surfaces aren’t a problem. The massive front fork handles the front suspension, while on the rear you’ll find a standard coil spring shock absorber. Comfort is also improved by the wide tires with a tire size of 100/65 – 6.5 mentioned earlier.

Overall, we really enjoyed riding the scooter, but we often hear unpleasant squeaking or rattling from different places. The front lights rattle slightly, the rear suspension sometimes squeaks, and as we mentioned, the screws loosen. Especially at high speeds, that’s not what you want to deal with while riding. D

You can even feel some play in the folding mechanism, where we also recommend checking that the screws are tightened. What bothered us the most, though, was that the handlebars can shift fairly easily out of the center position during riding due to the height adjustment system, where the rod that leads to the handlebars is held only by a quick clamp.

Steering damper that addresses so-called wobbling

In the introduction, we already mentioned that the manufacturer also includes a steering damper, which most owners of such scooters have to buy separately. If you didn’t know, the damper tackles so-called wobbling—basically handlebar vibration and instability at higher speeds.

From the factory, the handlebars rotate very easily and have a wide range of motion. The damper makes steering slightly stiffer and limits the turning range, but at high speeds it suppresses wobbling.

We tested the e-scooter both with and without a suspension damper, and we have to admit that at speeds above 60 km/h we felt much more confident with the damper. At high speeds, the e-scooter is already prone to unwanted handlebar vibration, so we definitely recommend using this damper for your own safety.

Battery, range on a single charge, and charging

The ANGWATT T1 comes with a 60 V / 35 Ah lithium battery, which, together with two 45 A controllers, is housed in the chassis. According to the manufacturer, it should be enough for 80 – 105 km of riding.

As in our other reviews, we also verified the range here. We rode mostly around Košice, where we couldn’t avoid hilly terrain. Our editor weighs 76 kg, and we carried out the test ride on a warm sunny day with no wind.

For the first 30 km, we were almost constantly riding at 50 – 70 km/h. Then we slowed down a bit in the city, accelerated again for another 15 – 20 km outside the city, and finally headed back into the city.

Unfortunately, while riding our smartphone, the Runkeeper app froze, which we used to measure range. Right after getting back, however, we mapped the route in Google Maps, so we can state with minimal deviation that we covered approximately 62.5 km on a single charge.

The e-scooter display showed almost 12 km more, which is quite a significant discrepancy. We also double-checked that the e-scooter display shows as much as 2 km more for every 10 km compared to the GPS on the smartphone.

Brakes and folding mechanism

The e-scooter also comes with DYISLAND hydraulic brakes with 140 mm rotors. They don’t brake badly, but for such a strong and heavy e-scooter, better brakes with larger rotors would be a great choice.

Even a bulky scooter like this can be folded after releasing the safety levers in the folding mechanism behind the front wheel. Personally, though, we don’t think it becomes any easier to carry in that state—it at least takes up less space when storing.

Lighting and turn signals

We already talked about the impressive underbody side lighting, but let’s also take a look at the traditional lighting. In the front you get typical round lights that shine strongly, but their efficiency is weaker overall, and we’d really welcome a better front headlight here.

The rear red light is at the end of the chassis, and the e-scooter also comes with four turn signals – two in the front and two in the back. The front turn signals are quite easy to see, but the rear ones additionally have a small purple strip that worsens overall visibility during the day. Still, we don’t think that drivers of passing cars will notice such low-mounted turn signals.

ANGWATT T1: Final assessment

The ANGWATT T1 electric e-scooter impresses especially with its high peak power of 6000 W and a massive frame. It’s a similar model to Laotie Ti30, Boyueda S3 or DUOTTS D88, but the manufacturer made sure to bring a few upgrades.

Compared to the mentioned models, you’ll also find a steering damper in the package, along with a pair of chargers. The scooter also got a large display in the center of the handlebars, front and rear turn signals, an underglow chassis with the brand logo, solid wide handlebars, and a wider rear fender.

The ANGWATT T1 definitely draws attention from passers-by, delivering a fantastic riding experience and excellent acceleration. However, the bulky frame also has its downsides. It consists of multiple parts and a lot of screws and nuts.
