News has started to spread online about a visually familiar e-scooter model with a not-so-well-known name – HT-T4 Max. At first glance, it may seem like it’s a well-known model from the Xiaomi ecosystem, Ninebot MAX G30, but in reality, it’s a very well-made clone.

In this review, we’ll share our impressions of this scooter while also learning the key differences between the two models. The price gap is quite significant, so you’re probably wondering whether it’s worth paying extra for the branded model—or whether this newly introduced clone is the ideal choice.

Still a great deal from the EU warehouse

The international marketplace GShopper brings together several global sellers in one place, including the official T4 Electric Scooter Shop. It has this Ninebot clone e-scooter available in a European warehouse, and delivery will take as little as 3 working days, just like in our case.

China Planet shopping TIP: GShopper has now launched direct bank transfer payments, so you can save another 4.5 % off the product price! Compared to card / Google Pay payment, you can get this product much cheaper. We described the full bank transfer payment process in our article.

The e-scooter arrived remarkably fast

For this review, the HT-T4 Max e-scooter was provided by the seller on the Gshopper online marketplace, and the e-scooter was available and shipped from a European warehouse. Total delivery time was 3 days, and on the third day the courier was already ringing our doorbell early in the morning with the package.

The HT-T4 Max e-scooter arrived packed very similarly compared to the Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter. Inside the box, the e-scooter was protected by solid foam padding, but it still picked up a few minor scuffs and scratches.

Issues right after unpacking

In our opinion, however, a poorly drilled thread is a bigger problem than the small scratches. Both e-scooters, the HT-T4 Max and the Ninebot MAX G30, are shipped with the handlebars disassembled, so after unpacking you need to attach the handlebars to the scooter body using the six included screws (an Allen key is also included in the package).

So we took out the screws and started assembling the handlebars with a suitable Allen key. However, on the penultimate screw, we noticed that its thread had been drilled at an angle (see photos), so it couldn’t be screwed in properly. This issue can be fixed by cutting a new thread, but this is one of the noticeable quality differences compared with the Ninebot MAX G30.

If we should mention another small but annoying detail, compared with the Ninebot MAX G30, it’s that the screws in the Ninebot scooter package had a special anti-loosening adhesive on their threads, while the screws in the HT-T4 Max package did not have this adhesive applied.

Aside from these drawbacks, the scooter gives off a very pleasant, elegant, and robust impression. As we later confirmed, the scooter is truly solid and durable, following the example of the previously reviewed Ninebot MAX G30 scooter.

Similarly to the MAX G30 e-scooter, this model also does not have any reinforcement for the rear fender. Because of that, it’s more than certain that the fender will break after some time. Many MAX G30 owners complain about this issue, and it’s a shame that the clone in the form of the HT-T4 Max didn’t hit the market with a better solution.

In the box, besides the scooter itself, you’ll also find a fairly large charger, a second imbus key needed to mount the kickstand, and a user manual. For comparison, the Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter is delivered with a pre-installed kickstand and an extension hose for inflating the tires.

Build quality

As we already wrote earlier in the article, the first impression of the scooter is really great. You can definitely rely on the sturdy and durable aluminum build in every situation, even on the more demanding terrain. A nice difference compared to the MAX G30 e-scooter is its lower weight — 17,5 kilograms vs 19,1 kilograms.

The folding mechanism construction is also slightly different compared to the Ninebot, but we wouldn’t look for differences in safety or quality, since both mechanisms were, at minimum during the testing period, extremely reliable. We definitely have to praise the cables routed through the body of the scooter, thanks to which the HT-T4 Max feels even more rugged compared to the Ninebot MAX G30.

Riding the scooter—solid tires are clearly noticeable

After quickly assembling the scooter, we headed out for our first test ride. Right at the start, it’s worth mentioning one of the most noticeable differences versus the Ninebot—namely the solid tires. The big advantage is that on the HT-T4 Max you can’t get a flat tire even when riding on difficult terrain. On the other hand, riding over an uneven surface is really quite uncomfortable.

After a little while of riding, we noticed another interesting difference compared to the Ninebot: the center locking position. The HT-T4 Max model has a small defined space in the middle position of the handlebars, where the handlebars lock themselves in place. If you want to turn the handlebars to one side or the other, you need to overcome a slight resistance.

Definitely, this is an interesting feature that we hadn’t had the chance to encounter before with these city e-scooters. At first, this steering resistance was rather unpleasant for us, but after several rides we got completely used to it.

Performance worthy of a city e-scooter

As for the rear motor’s performance, both e-scooters have a motor with a nominal output of 350 W. During testing and comparison, we measured a maximum speed about 1 km/h higher than the Ninebot e-scooter, which in the end gives us a fully sufficient city speed of roughly 33 km/h with a 72 kg rider on flat ground.

We could observe a noticeable performance difference when riding up a steeper hill. While the Ninebot MAX G30 handled this climb at 12 km/h, the HT-T4 Max required you to help by riding in a kind of serpentine pattern. So under load, performance is definitely lower in the clone. Acceleration time also plays in favor of the branded MAX G30 model.

The HT-T4 Max offers 4 speed modes:

  • S (Sport) mode – maximum speed 33 km/h
  • D (Driving) mode – maximum speed 28 km/h
  • ECO mode – maximum speed 20 km/h
  • walking mode – maximum speed 5 km/h

For comparison, the Ninebot MAX G30 also features a pedestrian mode, but in this case it needs to be enabled directly in the app, whereas on the HT-T4 Max you can activate this mode simply by tapping through the button on the handlebars.

Very good range on a single charge

In terms of battery and range, the e-scooters are very similar. The Ninebot MAX G30 has a 15.3 Ah battery (36 V / 551 Wh), while the HT-T4 Max offers a 15 Ah battery pack (36 V / 540 Wh). From these figures, it is immediately clear that the range on a single charge is at a very similar level.

On a single charge at maximum speed, we managed to ride approximately 55 kilometers, which is a truly impressive distance (the rider weighed 72 kg, on asphalt with no hills). The Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter achieved almost identical results in our test.

Ad

We can’t forget to mention charging itself, which brings us to another rather significant difference. We charged the HT-T4 Max electric e-scooter from 0 to 100% with the included 2 A charger in about 7-9 hours, but compared with the G30 model, you don’t see the current charge status on the display at all.

You can only orient yourself using the LED diode(s) on the charger body (red — the scooter is charging, green — the scooter is fully charged). The Ninebot MAX G30 shows the current battery level in real time in percentages, which is definitely a better, more accurate, and more aesthetic solution.

In addition, the MAX G30 has a built-in transformer right in the scooter body, so for charging you only need the cable itself (which is also why the scooter is slightly heavier). Charging time for the MAX G30 is about 6 hours (you can also buy an additional 5 A charger). The cover for the charging connectors is made much better on the Ninebot scooter.

Lighting, braking system

Proper lighting is also an important element of any means of transport. The HT-T4 Max e-scooter offers a front LED headlight, which is a bit weaker compared to the one on the Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter, and a rear — rather weak — LED diode. The rear warning lighting on the G30 scooter is designed much nicer and more premium.

Safe riding is also supported by a double braking system consisting of an electronic motor brake and a drum front brake. The same braking system is also offered by the Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter, but in real life, the difference in braking between the scooters is huge.

Compared to the HT-T4 Max model, the MAX G30 has a much better and more efficient electronic brake, which significantly helps with effective braking. Drum brakes don’t belong to the most effective options on the market, so the need for a high-quality electronic brake is all the greater.

The HT-T4 Max model definitely doesn’t brake badly, but compared to the adult G30 model, the difference is noticeable. What’s more, the Ninebot MAX app lets you adjust the strength of the recuperation in up to three different levels, while the HT-T4 Max electric scooter has a single pre-set mode, whose effectiveness is almost zero.

App and connection

The scooter app is then a category of its own. In our review of the Ninebot MAX G30 e-scooter you could see in the gallery what the user interface of the official Segway-Ninebot app looks like. In our opinion, it’s a simple, clear, and modern app with everything you need to use the scooter.

Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the MiniRobot app. After scanning the QR code that was on a sticker on the scooter body, we installed the app and launched it. The connection to the scooter was lightning-fast and there was never any problem connecting.

The app itself is kind of a universal app for cheaper electric scooters. Several brands, such as Sencor, Urbis, Aovo, and others, use exactly the same app—only with a slightly altered design. A proof of how universal the app is is, for example, the need to manually set your battery capacity so that the remaining energy is displayed correctly.

The app essentially has all the needed features—for example, compared to the MAX G30 e-scooter, you can even set your start from 0 km/h. However, the overall user experience is simply worse. If you like logging your scooter rides on a map, you’ll have to find a MiniRobot app replacement, because for an unknown reason the app can’t load the map at all.

Design differences

To wrap up the review, we still need to mention a few design changes, but they in no way affect the scooter’s functionality. The most noticeable of these include the overall black finish instead of the scooter’s gray finish (MAX G30), the black rubber footpad for standing, the absence of Ninebot branding, or the puzzling use of a silver spring in the folding mechanism on the scooter’s handlebars (HT-T4 Max).

Conclusion

If you’re wondering whether it’s worth paying extra for a more expensive model, or whether it’s better to go for the well-made reviewed clone, the answer is simple. If you’re willing to pay more for greater comfort and an overall better riding experience, we strongly recommend the Ninebot MAX G30 model. If your priority is getting the best possible price, the HT-T4 Max model is an excellent choice.

The HT-T4 Max electric scooter offers a great price-to-specs ratio for its price—something you probably won’t find anywhere else. At the same time, when you compare it directly with the Ninebot MAX G30 model, you can see clear differences that fully justify the higher price.
