The Chinese company Vivo delivered exactly what it promised with a new X50-branded lineup. It consists of three smartphones: Vivo X50, X50 Pro and X50 Pro+.

Each model stands out thanks to its price, a stabilization approach, or top-tier equipment in every direction. Let’s take a closer look at the new smartphones.

Vivo X50 and X50 Pro

We’ll split today’s trio into two parts. The first one with the X50 and X50 Pro models, and the second with the most premium piece, the Vivo X50 Pro+. All three smartphones support the latest 5G networks.

Packed with features

The first two smartphones, Vivo X50 and X50 Pro, feature a fairly large 6.56" AMOLED display with a resolution of 2376 x 1080 pixels and support for 90 Hz. Pixel density per inch is an impressive 398 ppi. The fingerprint scanner is located under the display.

Both models hide in the top-left corner a 32 MPx selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.5, but the X50 Pro model adds a special curved display for an even better user experience.

Upper mid-range performance

Another common spec is the processor. The base X50 model as well as the upgraded X50 Pro are powered by the capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, of course with 5G.

Even though the 8 GB RAM of type LPDDR4X is the same, the paths diverge when it comes to storage and the battery. The “weaker” X50 model offers 128 GB / 256 GB of internal storage of type UFS 2.0, while the X50 Pro smartphone has 128 / 256 GB storage UFS 2.1.

Vivo X50 has a battery with a capacity of 4200 mAh, but the X50 Pro bumped it up by another 115 mAh, so its capacity is 4315 mAh. Both models support fast 33 W charging.

Cameras and built-in gimbal

It definitely gets interesting when it comes to the camera setup. Vivo X50, just like the X50 Pro, delivers a great combination of image sensors, but the improved model has one more ace up its sleeve.

Both smartphones feature a main 48 MPx sensor Sony IMX598, supported by a 13 MPx portrait lens, an 8 MPx wide-angle sensor, and for the weaker variant, even a 5 MPx macro lens.

The differences between the X50 Pro and X50 models lie in an 8 MPx periscope lens and a special gimbal stabilization that the main sensor uses. There’s also support for up to 60x hybrid zoom.

In simple terms, the gimbal creates a counter-movement that happens during filming, which is why the resulting video is beautifully smooth, evenly stabilized, and sharp. This is a major innovation in mobile devices. We’ve seen optical stabilization combined with electronic on multiple smartphones, but this almost-mechanical stabilization is in a league of its own.

Among other things, the Vivo X50 smartphone has 3 microphones and Hi-Res certification for the speakers, while the X50 Pro model adds a special AK4377A chip to improve audio output.

Flagship Vivo X50 Pro+

The last model in today’s trio is the Vivo X50 Pro+ smartphone. The very first thing that grabs your attention is an elegant leather back with an engraved Vivo logo. The upgrades are far from over.

The processor here is handled by the most powerful piece, the Snapdragon 865, again with support for 5G networks. Memory configurations are 8 + 128, 8 + 256, and 12 + 256 GB. The RAM module is LPDDR4X.

The display has stayed almost unchanged, but it did get some improvements after all. From the original refresh rate of 90 Hz on the first available models, the X50 Pro+ has climbed all the way up to 120 Hz.

The main camera has been swapped for a 50 MPx sensor, the Samsung Isocell GN1. It should also deliver excellent results in all lighting conditions.

The sound chip has also been changed to HiFi CS43131 with support for a powerful DAC codec. The battery remains the same, so its capacity is 4315 mAh and 33 W charging is still included.
