However, the Achilles’ heel of most devices still remains the battery, which will surely need to be replaced one day. Even though modern fast-charging technologies like USB Power Delivery help save the battery, repeated cycling still shortens the life of the battery pack. That’s where bypass charging comes in as a solution that can protect your phone from premature wear. How does it work?

Bypass charging works on a simple yet very effective principle. When this feature is enabled, your phone takes power directly from the connected adapter and completely bypasses the battery. That means the battery doesn’t charge or discharge in this mode.
With traditional charging, the battery is constantly part of the power supply for the phone’s electronic circuits. Even when the device is charged to 100%, the battery gradually discharges to 99%, then it charges again—over and over. This creates small but, in the long run, harmful microcycles. But if you use bypass charging, the battery literally gets a break and will last you significantly longer.
Using bypass charging is most beneficial in situations where your phone is plugged into the charger and you’re using it actively at the same time. For example while playing games, watching movies, or working with demanding apps.

Tým sa znižuje riziko prehriatia a predchádza sa aj tzv. termálnemu obmedzeniu výkonu (z ang. thermal throttling), teda situácii, keď telefón znižuje svoj výkon, aby sa neprehrial. Smartfóny totiž nedisponujú aktívnym chladením, ako napríklad drvivá väčšina počítačov. Výnimkou sú niektoré špeciálne, herné modely, no tých je na trhu minimum a sú určené pre špecifickú cieľovú skupinu.
Výrobcovia začínajú s implementáciou bypass nabíjania
Even though you won’t find bypass charging on every smartphone yet, more and more manufacturers are starting to roll out this feature. Early pioneers were gaming phones like the ASUS ROG Phone, which used bypass charging starting with the ROG Phone 3 model. Later, brands such as Sony with its Xperia series (as part of a gaming feature), or brands like Infinix, iQOO, Xiaomi, and REDMAGIC joined in.
Samsung also allows bypass charging through its Game Launcher app, although the feature is active only while you’re playing games. Google brought bypass charging support to its Pixel phones starting with the Pixel 6 series. The feature automatically turns on once you reach 80% charge, if you enable charging limit in the battery settings.
The newest device coming with support for this technology is OnePlus 13T. OnePlus with this model shows that bypass charging is no longer just a gaming-phone feature, but will soon become a standard even on mainstream smartphones. Thanks to this function, you can be sure that even with heavy use, your battery will stay in excellent condition for years to come.
