The brand EarFun is well-known among audio enthusiasts who are looking for an excellent price-to-performance ratio. Their headphones regularly outperform the competition in their category, but now this Chinese manufacturer has decided to create a competitive model for the higher tier as well—while keeping the price surprisingly reasonable. Its latest flagship in over-ear headphones—EarFun Wave Pro X—comes with a price tag that stays below the 150 euro mark.
Despite the relatively low price, these headphones can deliver features you typically find in premium models that cost two to three times more from Sony, Bose, or Apple. They have eight microphones, advanced noise cancelling, brutal battery life, and support for today’s most modern codecs. Our review of EarFun Wave Pro X shows you, though, that what truly makes them a gem isn’t obvious at first glance. Why? Keep reading and you’ll find out.

Design, build quality, and comfort
Right after unboxing the solid travel case (inside, you’ll also find a USB-C and a 3.5 mm audio cable), the EarFun Wave Pro X will surprise you with their build quality. The earcups are made from a high-quality aluminum alloy with an elegant matte finish and a circular, knurled pattern that doesn’t attract fingerprints.
The joints and connections are metal, which makes the headphones feel genuinely sturdy and premium, while still maintaining a surprisingly low weight of just 259 grams. That’s an excellent value for closed-back headphones with metal elements.
The headphones have an adequate, not overly strong clamping force, with soft, deep memory-foam ear pads covered in synthetic leather. They’re spacious enough that your ears never touch the inside driver grille. You can wear them for hours without feeling any unpleasant pressure.
That said, based on our experience, with these cups your ears and the area where they press tend to get sweaty. Depending on the conditions— in a better-heated room or while moving—your ears were more likely to sweat after covering them with these headphones; in other cases, wearing them remained comfortable even after several hours. However, the space practically doesn’t breathe, and the competition manages ventilation better, since you can also move the headphones themselves, even with the cups.
On the right ear cup, you’ll find physical control buttons instead of often imprecise touch surfaces. Physical buttons mean you can feel them with confidence every time, eliminating any accidental touches while adjusting the headphones on your head. By the way, we think the case is unnecessarily large. They could have made it more compact without any problem.
Sound and dual-driver architecture
The new EarFun Wave Pro X bring an interesting technical solution. Sound is handled by the so-called dual coaxial architecture (DCAA). In each ear cup, you’ll find a large 40 mm dynamic driver for bass and mids, with a smaller 10 mm LCP driver seated right in the middle, dedicated exclusively to high frequencies.
So how does it sound in practice? Out of the box, the factory tuning is quite specific right away, and it probably won’t blow you away immediately. EarFun opted for a so-called “darker” and more subdued tuning, which is surprisingly common nowadays even among pricier competitors.
The headphones have a very well-controlled, punchy sub-bass that also doesn’t cause unpleasant rumbling into the midrange. Still, we noticed reduced treble. The midrange and the first higher frequencies—such as vocals—feel pulled back, and in terms of sound quality they fall behind musical instruments.
10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ)
While other headphones force you to live with their default sound or only offer a primitive equalizer, EarFun Wave Pro X hide an unbelievably powerful tool in the EarFun Audio app—10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ). It’s not just the usual slider adjustments up and down. Here you can set the exact frequency you want to tweak, define the bandwidth (Q factor), and choose the filter type.
With this advanced tool, you can turn the factory sound into a true audiophile experience. Just find PEQ profiles created by the community online, enter the values in the app, and in one go you’ll get headphones with a balanced, crystal-clear sound—where vocals beautifully move to the front and the bass gets the right texture.
The ability to fine-tune the sound with extraordinary precision to match your ears and preferences is a feature we’d like to see in every model on the market. EarFun gets a huge thumbs-up from us for that. The app also includes an AI Translator, but it’s something every smartphone has anyway if you’ve installed Google Translate. It’s not real-time translation—you simply set the languages you communicate in, and you’ll get the read translation in the headphones.
Connectivity of the future and noise suppression
EarFun Wave Pro X run on the advanced chip Qualcomm QCC3095 with support for the latest standard Bluetooth 6.0. The list of supported codecs is literally extreme—you’ll find everything from the basics to top-tier LDAC and aptX Adaptive Lossless, plus even the new LC3 and Auracast, which you can use—for example—when traveling by train/plane, at the station/airport, in museums, and anywhere audio is broadcast to multiple recipients at the same time.
If you want to listen to music in absolute, uncompressed quality without latency, you can connect the earbuds directly to your computer via a USB-C cable and use their built-in 16-bit/48kHz DAC converter. There’s also Multipoint support for connecting to two devices at the same time, plus fast pairing via Google Fast Pair—we used it during the initial setup as well, and the corresponding app from the manufacturer was offered to us immediately. Through it, you can configure the earbuds in detail and generally manage them.
Active noise cancelling (ANC) here is handled by a system with up to eight microphones. While the noise reduction doesn’t reach absolute silence, for its price category it delivers a fantastic result. Trains, the engines of vehicles, or office bustle can be filtered out with a great level of clarity.
Transparency is nice, but it didn’t really wow us. It does its job, but we wouldn’t use it regularly. The microphone quality during calls is at best average. The big advantage is that ANC stays fully functional even when you connect the earbuds via a standard 3,5 mm audio cable to a computer, as we used them fairly often during testing as well.
Phenomenal battery life
If anything truly shocks us with these earbuds, it’s their battery life on a single charge. The 800 mAh battery keeps the EarFun Wave Pro X going for crazy 90 hours without ANC turned on and a full 50 hours with noise cancelling enabled. We’ll say it plainly, with no sugarcoating—practically, we couldn’t drain them even over an entire week of regular use.
With these numbers, they basically outclass even the most expensive earbuds on the market. So you can safely forget about charging for weeks, depending on how often you use them. And if they do run out of power anyway, thanks to fast charging, you only need 15 minutes on the charger to get enough energy for the next 10 hours of listening. We believe that this extremely long battery life is exactly the area that will convince most potential buyers.
EarFun Wave Pro X Review: Final verdict
EarFun Wave Pro X are a great example of what a modern, tech-packed product should look like, with an excellent price-to-performance ratio. For under 150 euros, you get premium-feel, comfortable earbuds with connectivity that even more than one owner of three-times-more-expensive models would envy.
The factory sound is aimed at the masses and a bit veiled, but thanks to the implementation of a parametric equalizer (PEQ) in the app, you can fine-tune the sound profile to your preferred style. Combined with excellent, 50-hour (with ANC), or 90-hour (without ANC) battery life, and very solid ANC, these are among the best closed-back earbuds in their price class.
