Source: miit.gov.cn - Third-generation BYD Tang EV in MIIT type-approval
- Two motors, total 515 kW (690 hp)
- CLTC range up to 850 km, battery up to 105.8 kWh
- It will go on sale by the end of 2026
BYD is preparing a new generation of its electric SUV Tang, and China’s industry ministry MIIT has already published its type-approval details and photos. The third generation of the BYD Tang EV has grown and will offer only five seats. It will be powered by two electric motors with up to 690 hp, and in the cabin you’ll find two huge screens.
Bigger body and longer wheelbase
According to the type-approval documents, the new Tang measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,740 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,950 mm, which is 145 mm more than on the previous model—something that should be felt mainly in space for rear passengers. Unlike the predecessor, which was also sold in a six-seat version, the new Tang EV will be five-seat only.
BYD itself calls it a technology flagship SUV from the 8 lineup with five seats. The car was first shown back in August at the Chengdu auto show, but the detailed technical specs came only with the type-approval. The photos from it also show optional add-ons, such as dark trim, roof racks or multiple wheel design options.

690 hp and range up to 850 km
The new Tang EV will get all-wheel drive with two motors. The front unit produces 215 kW (288 hp) and the rear 300 kW (402 hp), meaning together up to 515 kW, i.e. 690 hp. As Electrek pointed out, the type-approval lists lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD’s subsidiary in Wu-wei.
There will be two battery options with capacities 88.7 kWh and 105.8 kWh, and according to China’s CLTC standard, the car should cover 730, 830 or 850 km depending on the version. Real-world range will, as with any Chinese figures, be lower, because the CLTC standard is more lenient than the European WLTP. A second-generation Blade battery and Flash Charging fast charging are also expected—BYD claims charging from 10 to 70% in five minutes. However, the type-approval hasn’t confirmed this yet.
Interior with screens across the entire dashboard
The first official interior photos were released in early October by Lu Tian, head of BYD’s Dynasty series. The dashboard features an extended screen with a 35.4-inch diagonal, and there will also be a 30-inch panoramic display. The cabin will be offered in either beige Dune Beige or brown Amber Brown.
In the second row you get two captain’s seats with “zero gravity” positioning, and according to Lu Tian, there should be more than 1,000 mm of legroom there. Equipment also includes DiSus-A air suspension with dual-chamber dampers and the God’s Eye B driver-assistance system.
When will it arrive and how much will it cost
The new Tang EV is set to arrive on the Chinese market by the end of 2026, but BYD hasn’t revealed the price yet. For comparison, the larger seven-seat Great Tang (Da Tang) costs in China from 239,900 yuan (about €32,000), and over the first three months more than 10,000 units were sold. The five-seat Tang should be smaller and cheaper.
In Slovakia, BYD doesn’t officially offer the Tang model, and today the largest electric SUV in its Slovak lineup is the Sealion 7. Whether the new Tang generation will come to Europe is not known yet. If it did, it would be more expensive here than in China, because customs duty, VAT and other equipment would be added.
