Just a few years ago, a Chinese car on a European road was a rarity. Today, every eleventh new car sold in Europe comes from a Chinese brand, and in Slovakia you can choose from dozens of specific models. The pace is so fast that it’s getting hard to keep track — and that’s exactly why this overview exists.
Here you’ll find all the brands divided by whether you can buy them here today, whether they’re sold elsewhere in Europe, or whether they’ve only announced their arrival. For each brand, we include its logo and a specific model, so you know what to look for on the road. We’ll also explain two things most people mix up: a Chinese brand and a car made in China are not the same thing, and how European tariffs actually work.
The article is updated regularly. Last updated: September 2026.
Prečo je táto téma dôležitá práve teraz
The numbers for the first half of 2026 are clear. Chinese brands sold 662,905 cars in Europe, which is 107% more year on year, and their market share jumped from roughly 4.5% to 9.2%. In June 2026 alone, they even reached a record 10.9%.

The biggest Chinese brand in Europe remains MG with 180,101 registrations in the first half of 2026, but BYD is almost right on its heels — the difference is only around seven thousand cars. The fastest-growing names are Leapmotor and the Omoda and Jaecoo duo from the Chery group.
Skupina A: značky s oficiálnym zastúpením na Slovensku
First, an important distinction: it’s one thing when a brand has official representation in Slovakia with a dealer and service network, and another when its cars can be bought through an independent importer. This group includes brands with official representation; you’ll find the others in Group B.
According to an end-of-July 2026 report, 60 configurations of Chinese passenger electric vehicles were available on the Slovak market, plus 13 commercial ones — so in total 73. The offer covers the whole spectrum: from a small city car under €20,000 to high-performance flagship models at almost €200,000.
BYD
BYD is now the most visible Chinese brand here. Its lineup includes the ATTO 2, ATTO 3 EVO, Dolphin Surf, Seal, and Sealion 7. The Dolphin Surf is among the cheapest electric cars on the market overall. BYD is not a small company either — for the first time in its history it earned most of its revenue outside China and also owns massive car carriers.
MG
MG is surprisingly the oldest player — originally a British brand, which today is owned by the Chinese conglomerate SAIC. That’s why many people don’t consider it a “Chinese” brand at all, even though it’s the best-selling Chinese brand in Europe. Its best-known electric vehicle is the hatchback MG4 Electric.
Leapmotor
Leapmotor came to Slovakia via a joint venture with Stellantis and is sold through its partners’ network, for example via FINAL-CD. It offers the city car T03, the C10 SUV, and the smaller B03X. The T03 model is currently the most affordable Chinese electric car on our market. Leapmotor has recently also boasted about five stars in the Euro NCAP test.
XPeng
XPeng offers models G6, G9, and P7+ in Slovakia, each in several configurations. It’s a technologically ambitious brand with a strong focus on driver-assistance systems.
Omoda
Omoda belongs to the Chery group and, together with its sister brand Jaecoo, registered 124,280 vehicles in the first half of 2026. It already has official representation in Slovakia — the brand has a Slovak website with a dealer finder and offers Omoda 5 and Omoda 9 models. It’s also sold in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Benelux.
Jaecoo
Jaecoo is Chery’s second European brand, aimed at buyers who want a more rugged SUV look. It arrived in Slovakia together with Omoda and is sold through the same network — the lineup includes Jaecoo 5, Jaecoo 7, and Jaecoo 8.
Zeekr
Zeekr is a premium brand of the Geely group. Its vehicles operate as robotaxis in Waymo’s US fleet, which is quite a “calling card” for a Chinese brand. It currently doesn’t have official representation in Slovakia, but EV STORE imports the cars here and offers models 001, X, 7X, 7GT, 8X, and 9X.
NIO
NIO is built on a system of swappable batteries. Instead of charging, you go to a station where a robot replaces your discharged battery with a fully charged one in just a few minutes. It isn’t sold in Slovakia yet — in Europe it operates in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark, and is preparing for Sweden. That’s exactly why the brand spreads slowly: outside these countries, the battery-swapping station network is quite thin.
GWM
GWM, i.e., Great Wall Motor, entered Europe with electric models from the Ora lineup and with pickups. The brand also operates, among other places, in Germany and the UK.
Lynk & Co
Lynk & Co is a Geely group brand that, in Europe, tested an unconventional sales model — monthly subscriptions instead of buying. Its 01 model is a plug-in hybrid.
Maxus
Maxus, just like MG, belongs to SAIC and is strongest in Europe in commercial vehicles. The eDeliver electric vans operate in city fleets across the continent.
Changan
Changan kicked off its European expansion in March 2025—and right away in ten countries. Its electric sub-brand is Deepal.
Hongqi
Hongqi is the premium brand of the FAW group with a rich history—once, it produced limousines for the Chinese leadership. In Europe, it sells in Norway, the Netherlands, and Poland, and wants to enter 25 countries. The flagship is the big SUV E-HS9.
Voyah
Voyah is the premium brand of the Dongfeng group. It already has its own European website and a sales contact, and we’ve also written about its model Dream 9.
GAC Aion
The GAC group with the Aion brand has confirmed its entry into Spain in 2026. It’s one of the largest EV manufacturers in China, but it’s almost unknown to us so far.
With this group, it’s worth keeping an eye on when the brand announces the importer for Central Europe—that’s usually the first real sign that the car will show up in our dealerships.
Denza
Denza is BYD’s premium brand—its N8 model promises over 1000 km of range. BYD is also preparing an electric microcar for Europe and is getting ready for a new Great Seagull hatchback.
Firefly
Firefly is NIO’s affordable sub-brand aimed at under €25,000. It’s a small city EV that’s supposed to open the door for the brand to a much wider audience than the expensive ET5 and ET9 sedans.
With this group, there’s one important warning: announcing an entry doesn’t mean the car will actually arrive. Several brands have already postponed or changed their plans for Europe—often due to customs duty or the costs of building up a service network.

Pripravujeme: podrobné predstavenie každej značky
This overview is just a directory. For each brand from this list, we’re preparing a separate article — a series where we’ll look at its history, who it truly belongs to, which models it offers in Europe, how the service network is here and what you can expect from it in the coming years.
We’ll keep adding finished parts here, directly to the respective brand. If you don’t want to miss any, follow our Telegram or subscribe to our newsletter — we’ll always let you know when the next one is added.
Čínska značka nie je to isté ako auto vyrobené v Číne
Toto je bod, kde sa mýli takmer každý. Fungujú tu totiž obe možnosti naraz — a ani jedna nie je výnimkou.
Chinese brands manufacture in Europe. BYD builds a plant in Hungary and another one in Turkey, while Leapmotor uses Stellantis production capacity. So a car with a Chinese logo can easily come from a European production line.
And vice versa — European brands manufacture in China. The electric MINI Cooper and MINI Aceman are made in China in a joint venture between BMW and Great Wall. CUPRA Tavascan is produced in the Chinese province of Anhui. Volvo ES90 comes from Chengdu in China — and Volvo itself has been part of the Chinese Geely group since 2010.
The practical takeaway for you is simple: if you’re deciding based on where the car was made, the logo on the hood won’t tell you. You need to check the vehicle registration document, or ask the seller directly.
Clá EÚ a čo znamenajú pre ceny u nás
The European Union introduced anti-subsidy duties as of 30 October 2024 on electric vehicles imported from China. It’s not a single rate for everyone — the level depends on how the company cooperated during the investigation into subsidies.

On top of the standard ten-percent duty that generally applies to car imports, 17% for BYD, 18.8% for the Geely group, and 35.3% for SAIC — the parent company of MG — were added. So overall, MG pays more than 45% at the border, while BYD pays 27%.
The impact shows up in the numbers. SAIC sales in the EU fell by almost half compared to the 2023 peak, while BYD — with the lowest growth rate — more than doubled its sales. At the same time, the share of cars manufactured in China in EU electric-vehicle sales dropped from 22% in 2024 to 17% in the first quarter of 2026 — manufacturers are moving production closer to customers.
Brussels and Beijing are also negotiating a deal to replace the tariffs with an agreement on minimum prices. If that happens, prices of Chinese electric vehicles would have a capped floor, but the customs surcharge would disappear. For buyers, that would mean a smaller difference between brands than today.
Ako si v tom urobiť poriadok
If you’re considering a Chinese electric car, three things matter more than the brand origin. First, the service network here — a brand with an importer and authorized service centers is a completely different story when it comes to warranty claims than a car brought in on your own. Second, safety, which you can verify independently: Chinese models today commonly achieve five stars in Euro NCAP. And third, battery warranty, which is the most expensive component in an electric vehicle.
Pôvod značky sám o sebe dnes nehovorí o kvalite prakticky nič. Hovorí skôr o tom, ako dlho tá firma na našom trhu pôsobí a čo sa stane, keď budeš niečo potrebovať.
