Solid e-bike with two racks
Engwe L20 is a bike we had the chance to unbox, assemble, and test. In the past, we’ve tested models from this brand like the Engine Pro and EP-2 Pro, which we can definitely recommend as great experience-worthy fat bikes that can handle some off-road too. The specific L20 model focuses more on the practical side of riding—something also suggested by the massive rear rack that’s mounted on it.
The package also includes a front rack with a load capacity of 13 kg, which is definitely not bad! This bike is made for women who like going shopping or for picnics. It has a lowered frame, so getting on and off is easier even for people with less mobility.
Factory speed lock
The first thing that may surprise you about this bike is the locked speed of 25 km/h and the disabled hand throttle. However, this is something you can unlock—of course, the manufacturer did this due to European Union regulations, which make the process harder not only for e-bike brands but also for e-scooters.
After unlocking, the bike can reach a top speed of 45 km/h—it can be enabled in the display settings P3. To unlock the speed, with the display turned off, press both brakes at the same time, turn the hand throttle to the maximum position, and then turn on the display. After that, the throttle will work as well.
First riding impressions are great
We tested the electric bike on a short ride, and we can tell that as a city commuter for errands or trips to picnics, it’s a great choice. The construction is very solid, and the front fork tries to smooth out the bumps on the road.
Thanks to the quality build and the massive 20 x 4″ tires, the bike can securely carry even a heavier load, which is especially important for riders with less mobility. The battery is removable very easily, and we like the mounting system. A very comfortable seat that surprised us with its surface quality is an added bonus.
ENGWE L20: Electric fat bike with a low frame, speed up to 25 km/h and a load capacity of 120 kg
ENGWE L20 has a fairly thick metal frame, finished in matte black. Together with the robust tires, it delivers an overall size of 173.7 x 70 x 114 cm. The weight of this electric bike is then 34 kg.
The integrated electric motor has a power of 250 W, a torque of 50 Nm and ensures a maximum speed of up to 25 km/h. You have several riding modes available, including exclusive riding using electric power and a pedal-assist mode.
It also includes a seven-speed drivetrain from Shimano, LED lights for night riding, an LCD display for showing ride information, or mechanical brakes, and 20″ x 4″ tires.
13 Ah battery and a range of up to 140 kilometers
A big advantage of this design is the low riding position, which is suitable even for older users. The load capacity of this model is capped at 120 kg. The pedals are at a height of 12 cm, and the bike is suitable for riders from 155 cm to 210 cm.
The battery has a capacity of 13 Ah (48 V) and can deliver up to 140 km on a single charge in the assisted mode, or 66 km on a single charge in pure electric mode.
In the product’s retail package, you’ll find the electric fat bike ENGWE L20 itself, along with original accessories. There’s also a charging adapter (EU Plug, 220 – 240 V / 50 – 60 Hz), plus a quick user manual and the first setup instructions for the device, in English.
