Govee unveiled its latest TV backlighting Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite (H6099) toward the end of last year. With this model, the manufacturer set out to deliver an enhanced yet more affordable entertainment experience. To achieve this goal, it uses a new chip technology, color-synchronization capability, a higher-quality LED strip, and a minimalist design. Even more, Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite will become compatible with the Matter standard via a firmware update (OTA) in the first quarter of 2024.
For now, you can control this system through the Govee app, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite is the newest model in the TV Backlight series.

Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite uses a new chip that gives you 20% higher performance compared to the previous generation. The improvements help you adapt the lighting effects from your TV more precisely and faster.
Moreover, thanks to the better chip and an updated algorithm, Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite now supports new features. This includes fish-eye correction for the image and increased color tuning accuracy. It’s achieved by correcting edge distortion on the screen, which expands the capture area and captures colors with greater precision. The camera can also now identify and ignore the black frame at the top and bottom of the display.
Design and compatibility of TV Backlight 3 Lite
The improved single-camera with a gravity mount is easy to use and also compatible with ultra-thin TVs. Govee has also improved the design of the LED strip, which now uses RGBICW 4-in-1 LEDs.
Compared to its predecessor, the new LED generation includes white LED diodes for more accurate color reproduction and smoother color transitions. This upgrade lets you customize the lighting for your screen even better, resulting in prettier visual effects.
Installation and synchronization
No additional HDMI devices are required to run the system. Your TV image is captured exclusively via the camera on top of the TV. This makes it possible to synchronize the image with the light even when watching content protected by copyright, such as Disney+ and Netflix.
Mounting the control box and camera on the TV, as well as the LED strip around the TV, is just as quick as the initial setup through the Govee Home app. With calibration points placed in the app only once at the beginning, the initial setup shouldn’t take more than five minutes.
DreamView mode and Matter integration
Govee DreamView lets you synchronize the lighting effects of the new TV backlighting with other Govee smart lights in the ecosystem. This feature supports synchronization with up to 7 Govee devices, further expanding your TV or movie-watching experience.
As for Matter integration via a firmware update this year, we mainly expect the light on/off function in HomeKit. However, for integrating into scenes and automations or for integration with Siri voice commands, this is of course a very welcome expansion. Whether it really happens, we’ll keep an eye on it.
