And here’s another Ninkear laptop that tempts you with interesting specs at a very good price. This spring, we tested the Ninkear N16 Pro, which we could also place in this category—and now we have a newer, upgraded A16 Pro model. Unfortunately, not everything has changed for the better; we also found a few downsides. The novelty comes with higher performance, a very similar design, and some updates that will definitely please you. Objectively, it’s a better model, so if you were considering the predecessor, this device will be an even better choice.

Take a look at the specs and you’ll quickly see that for this price you’re getting quite a lot. The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS chipset, 32 GB RAM, a matte high-resolution display and a 120 Hz refresh rate are all very appealing. And you won’t pay even 700 euros for all of that. So what is the Ninkear A16 Pro like, and is it worth investing in?

Package contents

The contents are practically identical to the Ninkear N16 Pro. We praised it back then and we’re praising it now. The laptop arrived in a standard brown box—nothing special. The most interesting accessory you get with it is probably a mouse. It’s a basic cheap wired mouse, but having it in the package is definitely a plus. We expected a standard charger with a special connector, but the manufacturer understood that this isn’t common anymore in 2024, so you get a USB-C cable with a USB-C charging adapter. We’ll get to charging next.

The packaging also includes a user manual and keyboard stickers that may come in handy, because they are localized for multiple languages. However, Slovak isn’t included here. Unfortunately, the laptop bag is missing from the box; the mouse pad is still there.

Design, build quality, and connectivity

Not much has changed here either, and it’s the materials where the manufacturer has saved the most. But that doesn’t mean it’s outright bad—if anything, it’s the opposite. The body is made of plastic, but thankfully it’s sturdy enough and feels quite solid. Of course, the 16-inch display takes its toll on the overall size and weight, but the device is still suitable for carrying around.

Even despite the cheaper materials, it doesn't look bad at all, and if you pull it out somewhere in a cafe, you don't have to be embarrassed by it. You’ll appreciate the very comfortable one-handed opening, and the hinge resistance is set absolutely ideally for this. The display also holds its position very well, and you can open it to an angle of up to 180 degrees. In our view, the keyboard has also improved a bit. It is still plastic, but it is less noisy (although you can still hear it quite a lot). On the other hand, typing on it is very comfortable. We’re actually writing this review on the Ninkear A16 Pro keyboard right now, and we have nothing to complain about.

The laptop can be opened up to a 180 degree angle; ports on the left side

There’s also a numeric keypad—the keys are narrower, but they’ll serve you well. The arrow keys on the keyboard could be arranged a bit better, especially up and down. They’re narrow and rather close to each other, and we still haven’t gotten used to using them; typos happen on a daily basis.

Ports on the right side

When it comes to ports, the equipment is pretty decent. The left side has two USB-C ports that also support charging, so it doesn’t matter which one you use. Above them there’s a full-size HDMI connector, which still isn’t completely standard. The right side features a 3,5 mm audio jack and two large USB ports. The only thing that would be handy here would be a memory card reader.

Display and speakers

The display is one of the most important parts of any laptop. It’s the area you’re always looking at when you’re working with it. The better the panel, the better. Ninkear knows this fully, and we can safely call the display a big plus. No, of course it won’t beat laptop displays from 2000 euros, but you can rely on it.

The bezel around the screen is fairly small

First of all, it’s great that the panel is matte. In terms of image quality and its saturation, it isn’t a huge plus, because glossy monitors simply look better, but the colors on the Ninkear A16 Pro are still very nice and vibrant. Plus, the matte surface has one big advantage – it doesn’t catch fingerprints, dirt, or grease. So you don’t need to keep polishing the monitor just to keep it clean.

Another advantage is the 120 Hz refresh rate, which you notice right from the first time you turn it on. Mouse movement is wonderfully smooth, and opening and scrolling windows is just as smooth. It also comes in handy for games (even though it’s not a gaming machine) or any other activity you do on your laptop. The viewing angles are also very good, and everything is rounded off by a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. In this respect, we have no complaints.

Pronounced speaker grille, but weak sound

You’ll also appreciate the rather small bezels around the monitor, and the top one even has room for a camera. Unfortunately, it can’t be used for face unlocking because it isn’t compatible with Windows Hello. You’ll also have to forget about a fingerprint sensor—too bad.

The Ninkear N16 Pro fingerprint sensor was small and placed in the trackpad. And since we’re talking about the trackpad, we appreciate its size, and with a bit of getting used to, you can work on it quite comfortably. On the other hand, it’s not a MacBook, so you should keep that in mind. For regular short work sessions it’s enough, but we preferred using the mouse.

Keyboard, display, and hinge

There are two speakers here and they point directly at the user, mounted right on the sides of the keyboard. So the start was good, but the follow-up is nothing special. The sound is literally terrible. Sure, it’s enough for basic video calls, but if you want to play music or a movie in at least decent quality, this isn’t a good solution. There are absolutely no basses here—there isn’t even the slightest hint of them. The quality is poor, the audio is unbalanced, and even the maximum volume leaves a lot to be desired.

Performance and system

What the Ninkear A16 Pro lacks in build quality or speakers, it makes up for in terms of performance. For this price, it’s hard to find a device with higher performance combined with more operating memory. Thanks to that, this laptop will serve you for a really long time without you feeling system slowdowns, because there’s performance headroom here that can last for several years. In this regard, we also praised the Ninkear N16 Pro we tested a few months ago, but here the performance is even a bit higher.

Inside, there’s an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor running at 5,10 GHz with eight cores. In this price range, it’s literally something unheard of. With this high performance, you won’t have to worry about the system lagging or, for that matter, apps opening slowly. 32 GB DDR5 RAM is also plenty for several years ahead. In the browser, you can keep practically any number of windows open, but you won’t feel any RAM shortage.

The Geekbench benchmark showed very strong results. In the single-core test, the laptop scored 2382 points, and in the multi-core test, up to 12167 points. These are the numbers it achieved in maximum performance mode while plugged into power. However, even after unplugging—when the battery took care of running the system—the performance is practically the same. Our scores were only a few dozen points lower. So you won’t lose performance even on the go, when you’re not charging your laptop. You definitely wouldn’t be ashamed of these results, even compared to a much more expensive ultrabook from some well-known manufacturer.

The laptop offers three basic performance modes, which is also reflected in battery life. Turbo mode uses 55 W of power, Balance mode uses 45 W, and Office mode uses 35 W. We tested performance, of course, in Turbo mode.

Battery and charging

One big positive thing happened here. The proprietary charging connector, together with a large charging adapter, has been replaced with a more convenient solution. You can charge the laptop via the USB-C connector. The package includes a USB-C cable and an adapter that offers straight-up 100 W. For charging, you can use either of the laptop’s two USB-C ports located on the left side.

The battery capacity is 80,08 Wh, which is significantly more than what the Ninkear N16 Pro offers (55,44 Wh). Battery life per charge is also better—if you put in a bit of effort, it can even last through a typical workday. Runtime depends largely on what you do with the laptop, and it’s very individual, but overall we’d call it decent. Plus, when you’re traveling, USB-C charging can come in handy too, because you can charge the laptop with a power bank as well—of course, one that provides sufficient power.

Final verdict

The Ninkear A16 Pro is an interesting laptop, and its main selling point is performance, along with a great display. If you’re looking for an affordable model and its speed is your top priority, because you don’t want to wait for anything, it will be a very good choice. Add to that a nice, clean panel image that doesn’t get smudged easily, and it could be a solid helper both on the go and in the office.

But it’s not really a gaming machine, even if simpler or older games will run without problems. After all, for this kind of use, you’re missing a dedicated graphics card. However, even the integrated graphics are not bad at all. The plastic build might put you off, even though the laptop still looks good and doesn’t feel completely cheap (but neither does it feel expensive). The weaker trackpad is also nothing new, but at least it’s large and you can get used to it. We also missed better speakers—they’re practically unusable.
