Nothing, which was founded in October 2020 after co-founder of OnePlus Carl Pei left his home company OnePlus, has unveiled its historically first product. It is fully wireless Nothing ear (1), which impress with their original semi-transparent design.
Unusual design
The design of the headphones and the charging case can’t be denied to be original. The case has a square shape and is made of transparent plastic, so you can see where the headphones are stored. The main connections and internal components are already covered with white plastic so it doesn’t ruin the overall look.
In terms of design, the headphones are very similar to Apple AirPods Pro. They have a construction with interchangeable rubber tips and a fairly short stem with the headphone name engraved on it. The stem is also made of transparent plastic, so you can see the internal parts.
According to editors who have already had the chance to see the headphones in person, they look much better than expected. They’re minimalist, fit well in your ears, and have an unheard-of design that clearly sets them apart from the rest.
Each earbud weighs just 4,7 grams and is equipped with 11-millimeter dynamic drivers from Teenage Engineering, delivering high-quality sound. What the manufacturer didn’t forget is active noise cancellation (ANC).
Battery life and connectivity
Nothing ear (1) come with IPX4 certification, so they can handle rain and splashing water. The full setup is done via the manufacturer’s own app. There, you can choose between an ANC mode or a transparency mode that activates the external microphones.
There’s also the Find My Earbuds feature, which makes the earbuds start emitting loud sounds so you can find them more easily. This app is available for Android and iOS operating systems.
With ANC turned on, the earbuds last for about 4 hours. With ANC turned off, the battery life extends to nearly 6 hours. The charging case then provides a total of 34 hours of music listening. The case can be charged the traditional way via a modern USB-C connector or wirelessly.
Nothing ear (1) will be available from August 17, including in the USA, Europe, Asia, and Indiea. The first sale will take place as early as July 31, however in limited quantities on the official manufacturer’s website. The price for Europe is set at 99 euros. If they show up cheaper with some of our verified sellers, we’ll definitely let you know.
