OnePlus 16R, which is set to replace the flagship OnePlus 16 in India, is said to get three rear cameras with a resolution of 50 MPx, and among them a telephoto lens that was missing from its predecessor. The phone is reportedly already in the manufacturing verification phase and is being tested with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 165 Hz display, and a battery with a capacity of over 7 500 mAh.

The information came from Indian leaker Yogesh Brar, who posted on X that the OnePlus 16R has moved into the PVT phase (Production Validation Test). In this stage, the manufacturer verifies whether the phone can be produced at scale, so the hardware is already basically ready. On the back, it should have a trio of 50 MPx sensors: a main one, an ultra-wide, and a telephoto lens.
If the leak is confirmed, it would be the biggest change compared to the OnePlus 15R. That model had only a 50 MPx main rear camera and an 8 MPx ultra-wide sensor, as highlighted by GSMArena, so the R model would support zoom only digitally. With a telephoto lens, the R model’s cameras would be closer to flagship phones.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a battery over 7 500 mAh
Performance should be handled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, last year’s flagship Qualcomm chip, which is a class higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in the OnePlus 15R. According to Brar, the display will have a refresh rate of 165 Hz, same as its predecessor, and the battery will have more than 7 500 mAh, while the 15R had 7 400 mAh.
The battery upgrade is more of a symbolic shift, but if the higher performance and the new camera are also confirmed, the OnePlus 16R would clearly surpass its predecessor. It’s said by GSMArena to run on the newly introduced ColorOS 17 system. How the phone will look—at least for now—we don’t know, since the leak contains only specifications.
The same phone is also being prepared by Realme
Brar added that a phone with the same hardware is also being tested under the Realme brand, which isn’t surprising since OnePlus and Realme both belong to the same group and the models are commonly shared. The R models are also usually based on the Chinese Ace series, which is why there have already been discussions that it could be a rebranded OnePlus Ace 7.
The 16R model should be the top OnePlus model in India, because the flagship OnePlus 16 may not even make it there, according to an earlier leak. OnePlus 16R won’t be officially sold in Slovakia, as OnePlus announced in July 2026 that it will no longer bring new phones to Europe. Buying will only be possible via imports from China or India, similar to OnePlus 15R, which we offered with a coupon via both GShopper and AliExpress. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed a new model yet, so treat the leak with a grain of salt, even if Brar has been right about this brand many times.
