The VEVOR brand is among the biggest manufacturers of tools and various home appliances. Their lineup also includes a practical portable refrigerator that we had the chance to test during hot summer days. VEVOR CF35 has a 35 L capacity, and you can run it in your car as well.

In this review, we focus mainly on what matters most – how quickly it can cool down and whether it can effectively maintain the desired temperature.

Where to buy the VEVOR CF35 fridge?

Portable refrigerators are currently available directly in the official Vevor e-shop, which ships products free of charge directly from EU warehouses. At home, you can expect delivery within 5 to 10 business days after dispatch.

We recommend buying through the German version of their website Vevor.de, because the EU lowest prices on products are there. Prices are even lower than on the European site eur.vevor.com. Our coupon can be applied on all Vevor websites. The only downside is the German language—you should use Google Translate.

Packaging contents & quality

The VEVOR fridge was delivered by the DPD courier in a box with dimensions 720 x 398 x 470 mm and a total weight of 14.7 kg. Inside, it’s protected with polystyrene supports, so it won’t get damaged during transport.

The refrigerator is ready to use right after unpacking. The only thing you need to install is the handle for easier carrying. The mounting screws and a screwdriver are included.

Also included in the package, you’ll find an instruction manual and a pair of cables. One is for connecting in the car, and the other comes with an adapter for powering it from a 230 V outlet.

Design and build quality

The VEVOR CF35 fridge is entirely made of plastic, but the plastic quality is very good. It’s not hard, brittle plastic—instead, it’s highly durable, which means you can carry it in your car without any worries. The lower corners even include additional protection against bumps.

Its design isn’t anything special or particularly interesting, but since this is a practical appliance intended for carrying, we have no issues with the design.

On the shorter sides, there are the aforementioned handles, which allow us to carry it easily. One of them has a small integrated display, which we’ll talk about later. The top of the refrigerator is covered by a flip-up lid, through which you load items into the interior.

The interior space is split into two sections. One smaller one with dimensions 160 x 267 x 125 mm, and a larger, deeper compartment with dimensions 327 x 267 x 290 mm. The larger section also features a practical grid, and it also includes internal lighting.

Capacity and power

The VEVOR CF35 fridge has a capacity of 35 L, and according to the manufacturer, it can fit up to 36 cans (330 ml), or 16 bottles with a volume of 550 ml, or 9 bottles of wine with a volume of 750 ml.

Behind the grille at the back, we can see a compressor rated at 60 W, which handles cooling in the range -20 to 20 °C—so it can be used for freezing as well. The fridge doesn’t include its own battery, so it needs a power source. This can be a standard wall socket or a car, where you can plug it into a 12 V outlet.

This portable fridge is therefore ideal for camping and other trips. It’s great for setting up camp, at a cottage, or for different celebrations.

However, while the compressor is running, it’s quite loud and vibrations are transferred to the surface when placed on a solid table. So when we set it on the table and turned it on, vibrations spread noticeably across the tabletop. The rubber feet are simply too low, meaning the plastic reinforced corners of the fridge also touch the surface.

Controls and operation

After connecting to a power source and pressing the red button, the fridge turns on automatically and the display lights up. It shows the current temperature and several other details, including the cooling mode (ECO / MAX), the battery capacity (car battery), and the battery protection level.

Since the VEVOR CF35 fridge is primarily designed to be plugged in to a car, the battery icon and its capacity are displayed all the time, even when connected directly to a household power outlet. At the same time, it also shows the current supply voltage.

Next to the display, you’ll also find arrow buttons for setting the desired temperature, a power button to turn it off/on, and a button for switching the mode.

The controls are therefore very simple and intuitive. Using the arrows, you set the desired temperature in the range -20 to 20 °C, and cooling then automatically turns on. Operation is accompanied by the compressor noise, so you can tell exactly when it’s cooling.

Cooling speed and temperature retention

As we already mentioned, the portable fridge offers two cooling modes – ECO for energy savings and MAX for the fastest possible cooling. We turned the fridge on when its internal temperature was 27 °C and set the cooling to 7 °C, which is the standard temperature for a refrigerator.

In ECO mode, the temperature dropped from 27 °C to 7 °C in 20 minutes. Then the compressor switched off and turned back on only when the temperature rose to 9 °C. It switched off again when the temperature fell to 6 °C. In this way, the fridge maintains approximately the set temperature.

In MAX mode, the temperature dropped from 27 °C to 7 °C faster—by only 3 minutes. For comparison, we then set the temperature to -18 °C, which is a typical freezer temperature. In MAX mode, it reached this temperature from the starting temperature of 7 °C in 22 minutes.

The cooling speed is quite decent. It’s a shame the fridge can’t hold the temperature better after you turn it off. When the temperature stabilized at 7 °C, we unplugged the fridge and were curious how quickly the internal temperature would rise at an outside temperature of 28 °C. From seven degrees Celsius, the temperature rose to 16 °C in just 30 minutes. After another hour, the internal temperature was 18 °C, so the food inside wasn’t cold enough anymore.

From the lower temperature—specifically -18 °C—the temperature rose to 12 °C after disconnecting from the power source within one hour.

We expected the cold inside to last longer, but it turns out the fridge doesn’t have very high-quality sealing or insulation that would better maintain the internal temperature. So we recommend using this fridge model more with an electrical power source.

Battery protection against draining

A feature that will definitely delight especially those who plan to connect the fridge in the car and draw power from the car battery is over-discharge protection. It can work in three modes – Low, Medium, and High.

When the car battery voltage drops below the specified threshold, the compressor is disconnected so the battery isn’t fully drained. You can see the exact values in the table below:

ModeCUT OUTCUT IN
Low8.5 V10.9 V
Medium10.1 V11.4 V
High11.1 V12.4 V

The CUT OUT value means that at this voltage the appliance disconnects from the power source. In contrast, when the voltage rises to the CUT IN value, it turns on again.

Bluetooth and control via the app

You can also control the VEVOR CF35 portable fridge using an app on your smartphone via Bluetooth. The app is called CAR FRIDGE FREEZER, and you can access it by scanning a QR code on the fridge.

Pairing with the app is easy and quick. Just search for devices nearby, select the fridge you find, and the rest will happen automatically. It’s also available in Czech.

The app interface is clear, and you can easily set all the parameters in it—also using the display. In addition, it shows certain settings that the manufacturer recommends not changing, including the maximum and minimum temperature.

VEVOR CF35: Final verdict

The VEVOR CF35 portable compressor fridge is an excellent helper for camping, picnics, or various outdoor activities where we want to store food or drinks cold even during warm days.

It offers an internal capacity of 35 L, plus a pair of compartments or a cup holder on the top lid. It features a clear display with adjustable temperature in the range of -20 to 20 °C. Cooling performance is very good, but we expected a bit better retention of the cold after unplugging it from the power outlet.
