Vivo X200 Ultra: A new flagship with a 35 mm camera shines in a video demo against the iPhone 16 Pro Max—even when comparing night shots

Vivo keeps promoting the X200 Ultra model, focusing on its camera hardware even before the official launch next month. This time, the brand demonstrated video stabilization compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is considered the king of smartphone video.

Video stabilization at the same level

The executive director of Vivo, Han Bo Xiao, unveiled more features of the upcoming camera-focused X200 Ultra. Just a few days ago, the same manager compared the X200 Ultra to a DSLR camera and the iPhone 16 Pro Max in low-light conditions.

This time, however, he focused on the smartphone’s video recording capabilities. The DSLR doesn’t feature anymore in the comparison, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max does. Video recording is one of the iPhones’ strongest areas, especially compared to current Android competitors.

Ultra-wide angle shot, better stabilization

Based on the demo video, it looks like the X200 Ultra could surpass the iPhone 16 Pro Max in at least one area. According to Han Bo Xia, the comparison was shot using the ultra-wide cameras of both phones. While this type of footage isn’t quite common in everyday shooting, the X200 Ultra’s camera seemingly provides significantly better image stabilization than the iPhone.

Han Bo Xiao suggests that’s because Vivo equipped its ultra-wide camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), which the iPhone 16 Pro Max doesn’t have. The X200 Ultra is also expected to be the only smartphone on the market to offer OIS across all three rear cameras.

10-bit log video format, 4K and up to 120 FPS

All three cameras will also support recording in a 10-bit log format, up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. Vivo plans to unveil the X200 Ultra model next month right after Oppo releases its Find X8 Ultra.

Night-shot comparison with the iPhone and even a mirrorless camera

Although comparisons with the Canon EOS 5 Mark IV point to certain limitations of the X200 Ultra in this area, it seems that the next flagship from Vivo performs better than the iPhone 16 Pro Max (currently around €1200). In the end, we recommend waiting for independent photo samples before forming an opinion on the X200 Ultra’s photography capabilities. Vivo will officially present its X200 Ultra model next month, after the Find X8 Ultra is released.
