Surprising data
The Chinese benchmarking tool Master Lu has published an assessment of the most faked phones for Q1 of 2020. Since the data is gathered from a benchmarking app, it wasn’t expected that the results would change significantly compared to Q4 of 2019.
It’s definitely interesting that in the TOP 9 most faked phones, the top 3 spots are exactly taken by Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi. The app reads device information that isn’t commonly available to view in the device.
In the first quarter of 2020, a total of 1 295 457 inspection tests were carried out. Out of the tested devices, as many as 7 931 were counterfeit.
In the top five list of faked models, these brands are included:
- Samsung W2019
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone XS Max
- Xiaomi Mi Max 3
Samsung W2019 was the most faked model, with as many as 498 counterfeit units. Despite the available data, we can’t confirm how transparent it is, as it’s not known whether the app again records a device that has already been recorded after it’s launched.
The other models in the TOP 5 were faked in these numbers:
- iPhone X – 246 kusov
- iPhone 8 – 213 kusov
- iPhone XS Max – 172 kusov
- Xiaomi Mi Max 3 – 127 kusov
The interesting part is that the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is the only model from the list that belongs to the mid-range class; the other models fall into higher tiers.
