Quick summary

  • The leak claims the upcoming Honor Magic9 will come with a compact 6.36-inch flat OLED display.
  • The battery is said to have a capacity of around 8,000 mAh and be built on the third generation of the Qinghai Lake silicon-carbon technology.
  • At the back, there should be two 200MP sensors (a main one with a 1/1.4-inch size and a periscope telephoto lens) plus a 50MP ultra-wide-angle.
  • The base model is said to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Pro versions will get a newer chip generation.
  • The entire Magic9 series will be unveiled September 28.

Compact flagship phones have had the same problem for years: a smaller body means less space for a battery, so you pay for the comfortable size with shorter battery life. According to a fresh leak, Honor is preparing to fix this trade-off. The upcoming Magic9 is said to have a 6.36-inch display, but a battery that even most significantly larger phones don’t have.

Eight thousand milliamp-hours in a compact body

The information comes from a Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, who shared it on Weibo and then it was further broken down by the website Gizmochina. According to them, the base Magic9 will get a flat 6.36-inch OLED display and a battery with a capacity of around 8,000 mAh. Honor should manage this thanks to the third generation of its own silicon-carbon technology, which it calls Qinghai Lake. The silicon in the anode can store more energy in the same volume than the classic graphite.

To make it clear what kind of jump we’re talking about: the current Honor Magic 8 Pro reportedly has a 7,100 mAh battery according to the manufacturer’s official website, paired with a much larger 6.71-inch display. So the Magic9 should be smaller while also lasting longer.

But lift your finger a bit: these are only leaked details so far. Digital Chat Station has a decent track record, but even its info isn’t always final, and battery capacities often differ between the Chinese and European versions of the same model.

Two 200MP sensors in one phone

The camera setup is also expected to be ambitious. The main sensor is said to have 200 megapixels and a 1/1.4-inch sensor size, which is a pretty large chunk of glass for a compact phone. The second 200MP sensor will serve as a periscope telephoto lens, and the system will be rounded out with a 50MP ultra-wide lens.

That’s where the leak diverges from the older reports. Earlier news talked about a 64-megapixel periscope, and assigned the pair of 200MP sensors to the pricier Pro models. If the new version is confirmed, the base Magic9 would receive a camera setup that had been expected about a class higher. However, these kinds of details can still change before the launch.

Honor has already shared a teaser for the camera module, and the 200MP 1/1.4 OIS figure on the lens ring matches what the leaker claims. However, full phone renders are still missing, so we officially don’t know what the entire Magic9 will look like.

Last year’s chip — and when we’ll see it

A curious decision is the processor. The base Magic9 is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, meaning the chip from the previous generation, while Pro models will get the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series. That’s not necessarily bad news, because the older flagship chipset is often more power-efficient and cheaper—which makes sense for a phone built around battery life.

Wireless charging and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader are mentioned among the rest of the specs. The launch date has already been confirmed: the entire Magic9 series will be shown on September 28, so we’ll have to wait a little under a month to verify these details.

For Slovak buyers, it’s important that Honor officially operates here. On its Slovak page, Magic3 Pro and Magic2026 Lite are currently being sold (verified 8. September 8). So the Magic series reaches us, typically a few months after the Chinese launch. If the specs of Magic9 are confirmed, it would be one of the few truly compact phones where you wouldn’t have to sacrifice battery life.
