Oppo has several smartphone lines in its portfolio: Find X, Reno, and Oppo A. The Find X series is the flagship line that was created in 2018. It continues to this day, bringing us the new Oppo Find X2 Pro, which impressed us with both its design and its camera.
Oppo Find X2 Pro is a beast
Oppo has brought us two smartphones – Oppo Find X2 and Oppo Find X2 Pro. The phones were announced on March 6, 2020, initially only for China, and they’ll soon also arrive in India.
Oppo Find X2 Pro is meant to directly take on Samsung Galaxy S20. The company has introduced several innovative features, which we’ll cover soon.
Perfect performance
Let’s start by taking a look at the core specifications. The smartphone comes with the Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G support from Qualcomm. That’s paired with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage.
With 12 GB of RAM, the operating system runs smoothly on ColorOS 7.1, which is built on Android 10. The battery capacity is 4,260 mAh, with support for 65 W fast charging Oppo SuperVOOC 2.0, which charges the phone from 0 to 100% in 38 minutes.
Stunning 120 Hz display
The front panel is one of the best on the market. It offers 3K QHD+ resolution and is a 6.7″ OLED display with curved edges. The front panel has an incredible refresh rate of 120 Hz. A fingerprint reader is built into the display.
As we’ve been used to with previous Oppo smartphones, the front camera had a separate sliding module. With this phone, however, the manufacturer kept the selfie camera in the display. The display has no notch, just a small cutout for the selfie camera.
A camera that beat Mi 10 Pro
The camera is definitely one of the most solidly addressed specifications on this phone, because in the DxOMark test it achieved the same overall score as the best Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro so far.
Find X2 Pro has three sensors in total:
- 48 MPx Sony IMX689 CMOS, 1/1.4″ sensor size, f/1.7 aperture, and 1.12 μm pixel size, Ultra Steady Video
- 13 MPx periscope telephoto lens with f/3.0 aperture and 1.0 μm pixel size, 10x hybrid zoom, 60x digital zoom
- 48 MPx wide-angle sensor Sony IMX586 Esmor RS CMOS, 1/2.25 size with f/2.2 aperture and 0.80 μm pixel size
The primary Sony IMX689 sensor produces photos with 48 MPx resolution and offers not only optical but also electronic image stabilization. Thanks to that, it can create “ultra-stable” videos. Standard video recording can be done in 4K at 60 fps.
The manufacturer handled the camera’s focusing with as many as three technologies – contrast autofocus (CDAF), phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and laser autofocus (LAF).
The 48 MPx wide-angle sensor has a 120-degree field of view and also works as a macro lens. According to the manufacturer, it can focus at a distance of 3 cm. A specialty of the Find X2 Pro is the periscope telephoto lens, which is developed directly by Oppo. The lens supports 10x optical and 60x digital zoom.
They paid attention to both the design and the durability
Oppo put a lot of focus on the design. You’ll find the phone in several versions right away, in black ceramic and in orange leather. That’s it—its entire back is covered with leather – vegan leather.
The frame edges are curved, and so are the display edges. The smartphone has IP68 protection, so it can handle quite a lot. Some splashes won’t shake it, and it also manages in dusty environments.
Find X2 is also available as a model
Besides the top Pro model, Oppo also introduced a more affordable Find X2. The main difference is in the cameras used—the standard version doesn’t have a periscope lens and also not the 48 MPx “wide-angle” camera. Instead, it comes with a 13 MPx classic telephoto lens and a 12 MPx wide-angle lens.
The battery capacity also differs only very slightly: for the Pro version it’s 4 260 mAh, while the base version is 4 200 mAh. Next, you can expect about half the storage space—from 512 GB to 256 GB.
Not everyone will like the price tag.
As we already mentioned above, the smartphone is currently sold only in China, but its global availability is expected. The price tag for the Oppo Find X2 Pro in its home China was set at 6999 yuan, which is about €915 in conversion.
The standard Oppo Find X2 model with 128 GB of memory in China costs 5499 yuan, which is 715 €, while the 256 GB version is priced at 5999 yuan, or 780 €.
