If you’ve been buying USB-C cables on AliExpress in small batches, since November you’ll find out it no longer pays off. For goods from a Chinese warehouse, customs duty of 3 € is added, a new handling fee of 2 €, and VAT—so one cable that costs two euros at checkout will get about 6 € more expensive. For similar money, you can buy the branded Baseus Tungsten Gold USB-C cable with 100 W charging, metal connectors, and an E-marker chip. It ships from a European warehouse without customs duty and any additional fees.
Cable for a laptop from 9,99 € and without customs fees
Baseus Tungsten Gold is sold by the official Baseus EU store from a European warehouse, so the price includes VAT and you don’t pay anything extra to the courier. Shipping is free on orders over 60 €, for a smaller order you pay postage, so it’s worth grabbing more cables at once or adding them to your charger. The store states delivery in 5 to 10 working days, and you can return the goods within 14 days.

To get free shipping over 60 €, it’s worth adding a Baseus power bank to the cable pack—it will use the cable’s 100 W. The strongest is Baseus EnerFill FC41 with 145 W and 25 000 mAh, similar power is offered by Baseus 140 W with a capacity of 24 000 mAh. And if you want something for your pocket for your phone, check out Baseus PicoGo magnetic power banks. Thanks to the E-marker chip, through it the power bank can deliver full 100 W even to a laptop.
100 W and E-marker chip for a laptop and tablet
The cable handles up to 100 W (20 V / 5 A), and since there’s an E-marker chip in the connector, the charger reliably recognizes that it can deliver full current. You can use it to charge your phone, tablet, and laptop via USB-C, and it supports PD 4.0, PD 3.0, and QC 3.0. According to the manufacturer, it charges a laptop to 70% in about 30 minutes—of course with a sufficiently powerful charger.
Inside there are 8 bundles with a total of 324 wires that, according to Baseus, reduce energy transfer losses, so the cable doesn’t overheat even at full power. Data transfer speed is 480 Mb/s (USB 2.0), which is more than enough for syncing your phone or transferring photos, but it’s too little for an external SSD drive or a monitor.
Zinc alloy connectors and 20 000 bent
Cheap cables usually get damaged first where they enter the connector. Baseus Tungsten Gold has connector covers made of zinc alloy that resist corrosion and better withstand impacts, and the jacket is braided with nylon, which resists abrasion and frequent packing/unpacking into a bag.
The manufacturer states that the cable lasted in testing for more than 20 000 bends and can handle bending up to 160° without damage. That’s why it’s also suitable for places where you constantly pull and bend it—for example by the bed, in the car, or at your desk, where you plug it into your laptop several times a day.
You also get a Velcro strap with the Baseus logo in the package, so you can tie the cable and keep it from getting tangled in your backpack. It weighs only about 29 grams, so you won’t even feel it in your bag.
There are three lengths to choose from: 1 m, 2 m, and 3 m. The shorter cable is good for a power bank, the two-meter one is universal for a desk or by the bed, and the three-meter cable is for situations where the outlet is far from the sofa or armchair.
Why you shouldn’t buy a cable from AliExpress anymore
Customs duty of 3 € and a 2 € fee are calculated for each type of item in shipments from China, so with cheap accessories, the fees often make up a larger part of the price than the product itself. AliExpress does subsidize them during Bundle Deals when you buy three products, but when you only need one or two cables, you pay the full amount. You can find a detailed calculation in our article about the customs duty and handling fee.
With a cable from the Baseus EU warehouse, you don’t deal with any of that, because the goods were cleared through customs when imported into Europe. You also get a branded cable with verified specs, faster delivery, and a warranty claim with a European retailer—which is worth it when you’re buying a cable for an expensive laptop.
