Biometric unlocking of smartphones doesn’t need to be explained anymore nowadays. The industry is gradually moving away from securing devices only via various patterns and PINs, and for some time now fingerprint scanners have been on the scene.
They’ve gone through many changes and positions. Until recently, we mostly saw them only on the back of smartphones; later they moved to the practical side of the device or under the display. Now, we can also see them in a camera module, as demonstrated by the Chinese brand DOOV, which you probably don’t know.
Unusual position
A Chinese smartphone manufacturer called DOOV is preparing another model that should bring a fingerprint reader to an unusual position. The phone’s model number is 200200519, and our initial information comes thanks to TEENA certification.
As you can see in the picture above, the smartphone doesn’t really stand out in anything special and may look like a typical, run-of-the-mill Chinese model. Well, that’s not entirely true, because if you take a closer look, you’ll see an unusually placed fingerprint reader.
Specifically, the scanner is located in the camera module, which, by the way, looks quite a lot like the well-known Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup. Such placement is unusual and at the same time interesting, since until now we hadn’t seen anything like this on a smartphone.
Whether this is a lucky solution, we can’t judge yet. As two key disadvantages, we can assume complicated unlocking for people with smaller hands or potentially getting the camera lenses dirty.
In terms of other equipment, the new DOOV model should feature a display with a resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels, an unknown octa-core processor with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz, a configuration of 8 / 256 GB, and a large 6000 mAh battery.
As for the cameras, the smartphone should come with a set of two / three rear sensors, with a main sensor featuring a resolution of 16 / 21 MPx. The most controversial area is the system, because the smartphone should be powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
