A night light that can project Netflix onto the ceiling in Full HD: ETOE Starfish Plus for a great 159 €

15. October 2026 4 min read 0 comments

Most projectors are a box-shaped device that you have to place somewhere and aim. ETOE Starfish Plus takes a different approach — it looks like a white desk lamp, rotates by 140 degrees, and projects your movie straight to the ceiling above your bed. And when it’s not projecting, it works like a night light.

Rotates by 140° and projects onto the ceiling as well

This is the main trick of the whole device. The lens is mounted on an arm that tilts within 0 to 140 degrees, so you don’t have to place the projector anywhere or build a stack of books under it. Just set it on your nightstand and project onto the wall opposite, a slanted attic ceiling, or straight above you.

Weight also helps. Starfish Plus weighs just 1.74 kg and measures 174 × 152 × 231 mm, so you can move it from the living room to the bedroom without overthinking it. Power consumption is at most 47 W, which is less than most standard bulbs in a chandelier.

Google TV with Netflix and Widevine L1

The system is officially certified Google TV with Netflix built right into the device. The key detail that most cheap projectors charge extra for is support for Widevine L1. Without it, streaming services work, but they send the image in cropped resolution — with L1 you get the full quality you’ve subscribed to.

Inside, there’s an Amlogic 905 chip with 1.5 GB RAM and 8 GB storage. Connectivity is handled by dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4 and 5 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0, so you can connect an external speaker or headphones. For ports, you get HDMI, USB, and an AUX output.

Native Full HD, 4K decoding

The resolution is native 1920 × 1080, with a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and the projector also supports 4K decoding—so higher-resolution content won’t be an issue. You can stretch the image from 40 to 120 inches at a distance of 1.1 to 3.2 meters, and fine-tune it with a digital zoom from 50 to 100%.

Be realistic about brightness: 300 ANSI lumens is the value for a dim room. That’s exactly what this projector is built for — it’s meant for evening viewing in the bedroom, not daytime use in a living room. If you need it to be bright even during the day, go for a stronger model.

Focusing runs automatically, and vertical keystone correction is also available. There’s also a 4-point manual correction. For a projector you’ll often rotate and move around, this is a must — otherwise you’d have to re-align the image every time you shift it.

Night lamp in one

There’s a built-in touch night light in the stand. Sounds like a marketing detail, but in practice it’s why such a projector even stays on your nightstand — it’s not a device you put away after watching; it’s a piece of furniture that has a function all day long.

One limitation should be said clearly: the speaker is only 5 W. It’s enough for a quiet bedroom and one viewer, but for a movie with multiple people or an action scene with bass, you’d better connect a Bluetooth speaker. Bigger ETOE models have a noticeably stronger sound — here they saved power in favor of size.

On the other hand, the lifespan is generous: the LED source is rated for 30,000 hours and the optical system for 160,000 hours. On Geekbuying, the product has a rating of 4.83 out of 5 from 17 reviews, with none worse than four stars.
