Honor V40 5G unveiled: Dimensity 1000+, 50 MP camera, Google services, and an interesting price

The Honor V40 5G smartphone was officially unveiled and, in addition to an appealing price tag, will also offer great specs. You won’t miss the Dimensity 1000+ processor or the 50 MPx sensor.

Competition for Xiaomi?

Honor V40 5G comes with a huge 6,72″ OLED display with a dual punch-hole in the top-left corner. It houses a selfie camera with a resolution of 16 MPx with a standard and wide-angle field of view. The display offers a resolution of Full HD+, specifically 1236 x 2676 pixels.

You won’t miss 10-bit color rendering, a 120 Hz refresh rate, or even up to a 300 Hz sampling rate. There’s also the DCI-P3 color gamut. Of course, it also includes HDR10+ technology and a built-in in-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone weighs just 186 g while keeping a slim profile with a thickness of only 8 mm.

Performance is handled by the new MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor, which debuted alongside the V40 5G smartphone. RAM is capped at 8 GB, using the LPDDR4x type. The internal storage is UFS 2.1, offering 128 GB or 256 GB.

The main camera sensor offers a resolution of 50 MPx, complemented by an 8 MPx wide-angle lens and a 2 MPx macro sensor. Thanks to the 1/1.56″ hardware and the presence of an RYYB filter, the primary sensor can capture better photos even in poor lighting conditions. There’s also support for 4K video recording and a slow-motion mode at 1080p.

The system is based on Android 11, complemented by the manufacturer’s Magic UI in version 4.0. Connectivity includes dual SIM support, fast WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB C. There’s also fast charging up to 66 W and a battery capacity of 4 200 mAh.

Price and availability

The smartphone is currently available only in its home country, China, and in the second quarter of this year we should also see a global version. In addition, rumors suggest the phone shouldn’t come with the Huawei AppGallery store. It should be available again with Google Play, along with all apps and services. That would definitely make many fans very happy.

The smartphone price with a configuration of 8 GB RAM / 128 GB ROM will be 556 USD / 457 EUR. For the 8 GB RAM / 256 GB ROM variant, you’ll pay 618 USD / 508 EUR. You’ll be able to choose from 3 colors – black, silver, and gold.
