Huawei is preparing its next flagship smartphone, and the public is now figuring out which processor it will get—mostly because of restrictions from the US government. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro will apparently feature the Kirin 1000 processor.

However, there were rumors about an even higher Kirin 1020 series, but a well-known leakster on Twitter shared that the new device will come with a Kirin 1000 chip manufactured using an advanced 5 nm process.
Mate 40 series uses the 5nm K1000 SoC manufactured by TSMC.

TSMC supply, but how?
If you follow what’s going on in the tech world, you’ve surely noticed the tensions between the US and Huawei. Most recently, the Chinese giant has run into supply issues for processors from the Taiwanese company TSMC.
Just TSMC is able to use the 7 nm and, going forward, even the 5 nm technology for processors. But how can they supply Huawei if the US government banned it because it uses American technology?
Apparently, the agreement between the companies was made before the actual customer order, so these supplies still have to be carried out. That means you’ll be able to test a completely new dimension of performance thanks to the new manufacturing technology.
Kirin 1000
Of course, support for 5G networks will also be part of the new Kirin 1000 processor. We don’t know any further details yet, but there’s talk of using Cortex-A78 cores. However, that’s nowhere near confirmed—we’ll have to wait for an official statement.
What we can expect, though, is a massive jump in speed and performance, along with a significant move up the rankings—like in AnTuTu, for example.
