- Rear-wheel drive and 329 hp.
- A 70 kWh battery for 635 km according to CLTC.
- 800 V platform and a 160-liter front trunk.
- Premiere in China on September 23.
Geely unveiled the next generation of its electric SUV EX5 two days before the official premiere. On paper, it’s a different car from the one we know today: a rear electric motor rated at 329 hp is 114 hp stronger than before, and the larger battery is said to handle 635 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC standard. In its home market, it will be sold under the name Geely Galaxy E5.
From the outside it looks familiar, but the changes are hiding in the details
At first glance, the new EX5 looks similar to the current model. You’ll only spot the differences up close: Geely has returned to classic door handles, a lidar has been added to the roof, additional sensors are mounted in the front fenders, and the bumpers have a sportier shape with matte chrome elements.
The car runs on 19-inch wheels, and the charging connector has been moved to the rear fender on the driver’s side. Web CarNewsChina, which was the first to reveal the car, notes that the new EX5 appeared in China’s homologation database even before its official debut and also shows up in spy photos.
The interior is built around a floating display and physical controls
The dashboard combines a floating touchscreen display, an LCD instrument panel, and a head-up display. The steering wheel is shaped like the letter D, and the gear selector lever sits behind it. On the central tunnel you’ll find a wireless phone charger, a rotary selector knob, and a set of physical buttons—something that just isn’t a given anymore these days.
In the next equipment list, Geely mentions the acoustic system Flyme Sound, a rear armrest, and a large panoramic roof. The assisted driving is handled by the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 system, which supports Navigate On Autopilot in both the city and on the highway.

329 hp, 800 volts and 635 kilometers range
Power is delivered by a single electric motor on the rear axle producing 245 kW, i.e., 329 hp. The previous EX5 had 114 fewer hp, so the difference is truly noticeable. Another novelty is the move to a 800-volt architecture, enabling faster charging.
There are two battery packs. The base one has a capacity of 61.5 kWh and, using the Chinese CLTC methodology, it delivers 550 kilometers—while in the stricter European WLTP cycle that comes to 451 kilometers. The top battery with a capacity of 70 kWh provides 635 kilometers CLTC, i.e., 521 kilometers WLTP. For comparison, the range of the current EX5 is between 430 and 475 kilometers according to WLTP. A jump of roughly 50 kilometers isn’t small.
Front trunk with 160 liters and dimensions of the compact SUV
A new feature that the previous EX5 didn’t have is the front trunk. It holds 160 liters, it’s electrically closed, and it can carry up to 50 kilograms. In practice, it’s exactly the kind of space where you can store charging cables so they don’t take up room in the trunk.
In terms of dimensions, it’s a compact SUV: 4636 millimeters in length, 1920 in width, and 1670 in height, with a wheelbase of 2750 millimeters. For a better perspective: it’s 13 millimeters shorter than the Skoda Enyaq, so it fits squarely into the class where electric SUVs are sold the most here.
When will it arrive, and what does this mean for us?
The car will enter the Chinese market on September 23 under the name Geely Galaxy E5. The update arrives at a time when the current EX5 hasn’t been doing too well in China. From January to August 2026, according to China EV DataTracker statistics, 40,776 units were sold—an 45.9 percent year-on-year decline.

For a Slovak reader, the EX5 is more interesting than most Chinese new releases. It was this very model that Geely used to enter the European market, and it is its first electric car intended for Europe. The direct comparison with the Škoda Enyaq, which even the Chinese source dared to make, is no coincidence: both cars are almost identical in size and target the same customer. However, Geely has not said whether or when the updated version will also reach European stores. For now, it is exclusively a Chinese affair.
