Quality and package contents
The electric bike Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer was delivered by the courier company SPS in a large and heavy box, which, however, does not surprise anyone, since this is a 26-inch fat bike and not a small folding one.
Inside, the bike is protected with plenty of foam inserts in a partially disassembled state. These are firmly secured to the frame and individual components using zip ties. Even so, we did find a noticeable scratch on the wheel rim, likely caused by the pedal crank.
The manufacturer did try—visibly the bike is very well packed—but it still wasn’t enough for it to arrive in flawless condition.
Besides the bike itself, we also find a smaller accessory box and a front fender in the package. In the mentioned box, you’ll find a manual, a set of Allen keys, and also small extra bonuses – a pump and a bicycle lock.
Assembly isn’t complicated
Just like is customary with other bikes, the Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer comes in the box with the front wheel, handlebars, and this time only the front fender disassembled. The rear fender and the seat are in place. The assembly will therefore take a little less time than in most cases. More time was spent removing and tidying up all the protective foam braces.
We started with the stem. We first had to loosen it using two screws on the sides, because it was turned inward. Next, we attached the handlebars to it, rotated them into the correct position, and tightened the relevant screws.
Then we moved on to installing the front wheel and the pedals. They are clearly marked along with a symbol that tells you which direction you need to tighten the pedals. With the front wheel, we noticed that the brake pads were slightly rubbing against the rotor, but we quickly fixed it by adjusting the brake caliper to the correct position.
In the end, we saved what we like the least – attaching the front fender with the light.
The whole installation was really fast and also fairly simple. We appreciate that the manufacturer includes high-quality, long Allen keys, which are very nice to work with. Similarly, the fork wrench for tightening the wheel nuts is also of very good quality.
Attractive design and build quality
The Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer is a fully-suspended fat bike that definitely stands out right away with its stylish design. We had it available in yellow, but it’s also available in blue. However, in both cases the front fork is yellow, and only the wheel rims change color. Personally, we like the yellow version more.
It’s a bike that makes every passer-by turn their head, because it’s hard to miss. The frame is made of an aluminum alloy marked 6061 and the bike’s total load capacity is 150 kg.
The wide 26-inch tires, high front fork, wide handlebars, and the attractive frame geometry dominate. The overall build quality is at a very good level, so we evaluate both the design and the quality very positively.
Wide handlebars and a colorful TFT display
We’re always pleased when a mountain bike has wide and curved handlebars, because that’s how we ride best. Lankeleisi RV700 is no exception and delights with 73 cm-wide handlebars, set at approximately 115 cm from the ground.
The handlebars are dominated by a large, colorful TFT display in the center. The display has vivid colors and is easy to read. It shows multiple pieces of information, such as battery capacity, current speed, riding mode, and other riding data. Unfortunately, the battery status is shown only graphically as a five-segment symbol. It’s a shame we don’t have the current battery voltage here too.
On the left side of the handlebars, you’ll find the front brake lever and a rubberized controller for turning the unit on/off, switching between modes, and controlling the lights.
On the opposite, right side, there’s the rear brake lever, Shimano shifting, and a throttle controller that is mounted from the factory. This is a so-called half-twisted throttle. The manufacturer doesn’t include a classic grip without a throttle controller.
Power and maximum speed
The Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer comes equipped with a 1000 W motor, which is located in the hub of the rear wheel. Its maximum torque is 90 Nm.
As mentioned above, on the handlebars there is a throttle from the factory, so we can ride the bike like a moped too, meaning completely without twisting the pedals. There are 6 riding modes, marked 0 to 5. The zero level is without electric drive, while the remaining levels already use electric drive, stepped according to the maximum speed. This is 25 km/h.
Since 1000 W and 25 km/h don’t quite go together, the hidden menu also includes the option to increase speed. You access this menu by simultaneously holding the + and - buttons. Specifically, the max speed limit is hidden under option P6. Here you can set up to 100 km/h, but the bike can handle a maximum of approximately 48 km/h.
Acceleration is quite decent given the bike’s weight and dimensions, but to reach the maximum speed we needed a longer straight road. With this bike, though, you can also ride it quite nicely, not just spin the pedals idly.
In the second or third level, we can easily pedal too. The bike doesn’t start up unnecessarily at a higher speed than needed, and when we stop pedaling, it immediately cuts the electric drive. The fourth level is on the edge with the unlocked speed, because above 35 km/h we have to pedal very fast so we can still get at least a slight assist. In the fifth level, we’re basically pedaling almost idle, because the bike lacks a tougher gear.
Because the bike’s weight exceeds 25 kg, don’t forget the requirement to have valid insurance (PZP) in place as well—even if you were riding at a limited speed of 25 km/h. You can find more information, for example, in our article.
Full-suspension frame
At the front, the bike is dominated by the extended fork, which is not air, but a standard spring fork with oil. Its maximum travel is 100 mm, but it perfectly completes the bike’s design. It offers compression adjustment from fully locked.
Its action isn’t the best, but it does a good job absorbing most everyday bumps. Still, the fork often makes a kind of knocking sound, but we couldn’t identify the exact cause—so we weren’t able to eliminate those noises.
The bike also has a rear shock labeled GSX-200 GO SUXE. It’s quite stiff, probably because it’s only some kind of base-category model. Swapping it for a better one would definitely help the bike.
Overall, the suspension isn’t ideal, but generally the ride is quite comfortable, which is clearly helped by the large and wide tires.
Quality brakes ZOOM
High-quality brakes are an indispensable part of a heavy, big, and fast e-bike—yet several manufacturers seem to forget that. Lankeleisi doesn’t belong to that group, so we can look forward to reliable ZOOM H875 hydraulic brakes.
The levers are short, they feel comfortable to press and are easy to use—but most importantly, their efficiency is very good. The rotor is among the larger ones, but it has a less standard diameter, 170 mm.
Battery and range
The battery in the Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer e-bike has 48 V / 16 Ah and is partially recessed into the frame. We personally quite like this way of mounting the battery. It fits nicely into the frame design, even though it isn’t fully recessed in it.
The manufacturer states a range of 45 – 55 km with pure electric mode on a single charge, or 90 – 120 km in assisted mode. However, in neither case does it specify at what speed or in which mode the range was measured.
Of course, we checked the range under our riding conditions with our style of riding. We don’t hold back—we don’t baby the e-bikes and e-scooters at all, so you can see the real range for the kind of ride you’ll use the bike for most. We could ride at maximum speed 25 km/h, or even in the lowest speed mode, to measure as many kilometers as possible—but that’s not our riding style.
We set the maximum speed, selected the highest mode, and at first we just rode comfortably in fully electric mode using the throttle controller. We rode around Košice, so we definitely didn’t skip the hills either—there are plenty of them in this area. In this mode, we covered 32.4, which isn’t a little considering the higher weight and wide tires. The bike’s display showed only 0.5 km more compared to the Strava app on a smartphone.
Since we reached this distance in the highest mode without any help from pedaling, we can consider it a kind of minimum range from which we can build further.
For the next ride, we went out in the third speed mode, where we also used the pedals, and during the ride we really worked up a sweat—so it wasn’t just coasting on the electric drive. We chose off-road riding with multiple climbs, but also descents. In total, we covered 50.8 km.
You can clearly see here how the maximum range depends on riding style and terrain. If we rode only on flat roads and on the road, the range would definitely be much longer.
Lighting and shifting
The Lankeleisi RV700 is missing a rear light and the rear red light, and even the front one is quite weak. Unfortunately, there are also no reflectors on the wheel spokes—so in this respect the bike is equipped rather poorly. It even lacks a horn.
The shifting from Shimano in this case is solid and fully sufficient. The Lankeleisi brand isn’t in the same category as the competition like Engwe or DUOTTS, which in most cases choose only a completely basic shifting setup. Here you get Shimano Altus, something we’d love to see on other bikes from China as well.
Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer: Final verdict
The Lankeleisi RV700 Explorer electric fat bike is an extremely interesting piece that grabs attention at first glance. But it impresses not only with its design, but also with solid build quality, a good frame geometry, performance of 750W—or with quality ZOOM brakes.
We truly enjoyed testing this bike and could easily imagine using it for the long term. A minor drawback is the suspension—especially the rear one—which has a bit too stiff a shock, but that’s something you can improve for just a few dozen euros.
