264 training programs and custom drills
PONGBOT comes with built-in 264 training programs for beginners and advanced players, from short net shots to long shots across the entire table. The manufacturer divides them into drills for the zone near the net and the standard zone, so you can choose whether you want to practice short play or forehand and backhand topspins.
When the ready-made programs aren’t enough, you build your own workout in the app. The table is divided into a 3 × 3 grid, and for each ball you select the landing spot, speed, and spin. This way you can train, for example, alternating a short serve and a long ball to the backhand.
Spin up to 60 rev./s and 9 serve types
The PONGSMART algorithm handles the serve, controlling the speed, spin, and the ball’s trajectory. You can set the speed from 2 to 15 m/s and the spin in 21 steps up to 60 revolutions per second, choosing from nine spin types, such as topspin, backspin, or side spin. You also change the serving frequency in eleven steps from 30 to 90 balls per minute.
According to the manufacturer, the serving mechanism has triple protection against balls getting jammed. However, you adjust the side angle of the head and its height manually. So the robot doesn’t switch forehand and backhand on its own like models with automatic oscillation, and when you want to change the angle, you have to go to it.
App or controller in your hand
You control the robot via the iOS and Android app, which connects via Bluetooth and offers all programs as well as an editor for your own drills. In the box you’ll also find a remote controller, the N-Control S, so you can quickly switch programs or stop training without taking your phone out.
On Geekbuying, Nova S Pro currently has 4,7 stars out of 5 based on ten reviews. Buyers especially praise the number of programs and stable Bluetooth connection with the app, but those who gave it one star less mention the manual side adjustment and the brief instruction manual.
Four kilograms and a tray for 150 balls
The robot weighs 4 kg and measures 465 × 325 × 176 mm, so you can easily carry it to the club and store it away in a closet. You attach it to the table with a strap and power it from the mains using an adapter included in the box.
The tray holds approximately 150 balls, which at a moderate pace is enough for several minutes of continuous training. Nova S Pro doesn’t have a collection net that would return the balls to the robot, so after each set you pick them up from the ground. They’re also not included in the box, so you need to buy them separately.
