Verdict: Tronsmart Mega Pro

Our editorial rating is based on product testing.

Pros
  • excellent sound quality
  • decent battery life on a single charge
  • water resistance
  • connectivity
Cons
  • higher weight and larger dimensions may be an issue for some people
  • the backlit control panel could have been used more effectively

The Tronsmart brand focuses mainly on the audio sphere. In its portfolio, it has a lot of wireless headphones—whether small earbuds or large over-ear headphones. In addition to those, they also make portable speakers, where you have a varied selection. We’re bringing you an exclusive review of the absolute new release – Tronsmart Element Mega Pro.

The Tronsmart brand is taking a similar path to Xiaomi or BlitzWolf. It offers products with a very good price/performance ratio. The same is true for speakers. Element Force or Element T6 Max have become very popular thanks to great sound quality while keeping the price low. That means you don’t have to invest a lot of money—you can get quality products.

Upgraded Element Mega model

Back in 2017, Tronsmart launched the Mega model. It was a 40 W portable speaker with dimensions of 193 x 57 x 82 mm, plus Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC support. It had two batteries with a capacity of 3300 mAh, providing battery life of up to 15 hours. Thanks to the TWS feature, it was possible to pair 2 speakers.

A new, improved model called Mega Pro comes with several upgrades.

We got it to the editorial office even before it went on sale. We’ve been testing it for quite some time, and now we’re sharing our verdict. Is it worth buying, or is it just money thrown away? Keep reading and you’ll find out.

Package contents

Tronsmart Element Mega Pro comes in a box with the brand’s traditional colors – white and purple. It’s packed very well; the box is sturdy enough to protect the speaker.

Right after delivery, you’ll feel it’s not some small speaker you can just hide in your pocket. Tronsmart Element Mega Pro has its own weight and isn’t one of those smaller portable speakers. But you won’t fool physics—if you want a speaker with good sound, it has to be a bit bigger.

The packaging is fairly straightforward. Inside you’ll find the speaker wrapped in plastic film, a USB-C cable, an audio cable with a 3.5 mm jack connector on both ends (an AUX cable), a bag for the speaker made of synthetic material, and a manual with a warranty card.

We didn’t like that both the USB-C and AUX cables are very short. They’re only 0.5 m, which is really not much. When charging—and especially when playing music via AUX—we would’ve appreciated much longer cables. Since nowadays USB-C is basically the standard for phones, we used a smartphone cable for charging.

Build quality, materials, and controls

Tronsmart Element Mega Pro measures 250 x 82 x 104 mm. Across generations, it has grown significantly. Its weight is 1780 g, which is already fairly high. So it’s definitely not a speaker you’ll take with you everywhere you go. The dimensions are quite manageable, but its weight is absolutely not negligible.

The speaker feels very solid and well-made. A metal grille runs around the entire construction. The housing itself is made of plastic. The bottom and top parts are also rubberized, and they feel pleasant to the touch. On the bottom, you’ll find 4 rubber feet that should prevent the speaker from moving around during music playback.

The top part also serves as the control panel. It is backlit, glowing in white, but its potential isn’t fully used. Since there’s backlighting here, we could imagine the option to change its colors or switch between different effects.

When it comes to controls, you’ll find the classic touch buttons for music control (play, pause, previous and next track). In addition to those, there’s also a TWS button, an equalizer, an input switching button, voice control, volume control, and an NFC tag.

The volume control buttons are connected by a backlit line, with + and - symbols at both ends. The line stays lit, but it’s a shame the manufacturer didn’t make better use of this element. The line could have been illuminated according to the current volume level, so we’d at least know what the volume is set to right now.

All the buttons respond well to touch, and we didn’t notice any issues in this regard.

On the back, you’ll find the power on/off button. There are also individual ports hidden under a rubber cover. You’ll find the standard USB, USB-C, 3.5 mm AUX jack, and a slot for a microSD card.

First power-on and pairing

The speaker turns on with the button on the back. After switching on, it will play a sound signal and you can start pairing it with your mobile phone. There are two available options. The speaker can be paired in the classic way via Bluetooth, where your mobile phone searches for the speaker and pairing starts. But the easier and faster option is the second method using NFC.

A phone with NFC support just needs to be held to the NFC tag on the top, and a pairing prompt will immediately appear. The process is done in just a few seconds.

If you want to reset the speaker, simply press and hold the button labeled “M” until you hear a sound signal. We reset it this way and paired it using NFC.

Sound quality

Tronsmart Element Mega Pro offers up to 60 W. It includes a special SoundPulse technology from Tronsmart that delivers higher-quality sound.

Inside, you’ll find a woofer placed in the middle. Next to it, you’ll find tweeters on both sides, and at the back there’s also a passive bass radiator that enhances the bass. If you want to see exactly what’s inside the speaker, we recommend watching the following video, where it’s completely disassembled.

The speaker pleasantly surprised us with its sound quality. The manufacturer mentions powerful bass, so we were a bit concerned it might be overly bass-heavy, but our worries didn’t come true. The sound is well-balanced, and it performs well across different music genres.

There’s an equalizer with 3 modes: Depp Bass, Vocal, and 3D. The EQ button changes color depending on which mode is enabled. For us, the best listening was with Deep Bass turned on.

We were very satisfied with the sound. In the past, we also had a chance to try the Tronsmart Element T6 Max and Tronsmart Element Force. Among the ones listed, Mega Pro plays the best in our opinion. T6 Max is too bass-heavy, which can’t really be said about Mega Pro. You can find the comparison with the Element Force below.

We tried playing different genres, and we even used the speaker with a Xiaomi TV instead of a soundbar—and it handled everything effortlessly. The volume is more than enough; neighbors have confirmed it. 🙂

It also offers TWS functionality, letting you sync 2 Tronsmart Element Mega Pro speakers with each other for true stereo sound.

Pairing two speakers is easy: just turn on both speakers and press the TWS button on the top panel of one of them. The speakers will then automatically establish communication with each other. Unfortunately, we only had one speaker available, so we can’t confirm this option ourselves. However, we assume it works correctly, since even with a pair of Element T6 Max speakers, the TWS function worked without any issues.

A quick comparison with Tronsmart Element Force

Since we also had access to an older and smaller Tronsmart Element Force during the review, we compared these two speakers, even though we know they aren’t in the same price or size category. Since Element Force is a fairly popular model, we were interested in the differences in sound quality. After all, if you’re looking for a better idea of what to expect, it’s good to compare the speaker with something.

The photos will give you a better sense of the Mega Pro speaker size. At first glance, you can clearly see that Element Force is significantly smaller and more suitable for frequent carrying. It’s lighter by exactly 1 kg, because Element Force weighs 780 g while Mega Pro goes up to 1780 g.

Element Force has a power output of 40 W, while Mega Pro is rated at 60 W. There’s a noticeable difference on the sound side. Element Force has 2 wide-range speakers in the front, with a passive bass radiator between them. You’ll also find such a radiator on the back.

As we already mentioned earlier in the article, the Mega Pro has completely different drivers. In the front, you get a bass and 2 tweeter drivers. On the back, there’s a larger passive radiator.

The moment you unbox the Tronsmart Element Mega Pro, you’ll notice a big “Power Bass” label on the box. But to our surprise, the Element Force has more pronounced bass. That’s caused by the wide-range speakers that move up to 2 passive radiators, which then boost the bass. However, this speaker has less pronounced highs. The mids are fine, but the bass is what dominates here.

On the other hand, the Tronsmart Element Mega Pro delivers nicely pronounced highs, but less pronounced bass and mids.

Overall, though, we found the bass on the Element Force to be less natural and overly dominant. In our opinion, the Tronsmart Element Mega Pro has a more balanced and cleaner sound, with more natural, non-intrusive bass—even if the mids could be better. So, for us, Mega Pro is the winner.

Runtime and charging

The Tronsmart Element Mega Pro has two batteries with a total capacity of up to 10,400 mAh. The manufacturer claims a runtime of 10 hours at half volume. Of course, we tested that. We used the speaker at a volume lower than 50% and it lasted about 12 hours (remaining battery was 20%). So the advertised runtime is real.

For everyday use, the battery life on a single charge is more than enough.

As for charging, the package includes only the short USB-C cable mentioned above—without an adapter. So we used a phone charging adapter with an output current of 2 A. Going from 20 to 100% took nearly 5 hours. If you have a faster charger available, you’ll probably charge it faster too. However, we couldn’t find any information about which fastest charger you can use.

Water resistance

The speaker is IPX5 certified, so you don’t have to worry about water. If you don’t know the exact ratings, IPX5 means resistance to splashing water (water from a 6.3 mm nozzle spraying the device from all directions, at a flow rate of 12.5 liters per minute and pressure of 30 kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters).

So if the speaker gets soaked in the rain, nothing will happen to it. Of course, we tested it. We sprayed water on the speaker from all sides and kept using it without any problems.

Playback from different sources

We assume most of you connect to a wireless speaker using your smartphone. But the Tronsmart Element Mega Pro also offers other options. You can play music from a USB flash drive, a microSD card, or from a device connected to the AUX port.

We tested every method and everything worked correctly, with no problems whatsoever.

A quality speaker for demanding users

We’re extremely happy with the Tronsmart Element Mega Pro speaker. Thanks to its great sound output, we really enjoyed listening to music with it and we can only recommend it further.

It handles different music genres well and has enough battery life for a single charge. It’s also great for slightly larger spaces—for a chat or a party. It’s definitely one of the best portable speakers in its price range. You won’t regret buying it.
