Source: huawei.com - Huawei unveiled the Pura X View, which the manufacturer says is the first mainstream, non-folding smartphone with a “wide” display.
- The screen is 6.39 inches and a 16:9.5 aspect ratio, so the body is wider instead of taller.
- The bezels are 1.05 mm thick all around, and the display takes up 96.1% of the front.
- A battery with a 7000 mAh capacity fits into a body that’s only 6.68 mm thick.
- It’s the first phone with the final HarmonyOS 7, with pre-orders in China starting on August 28.
The smartphone shape hasn’t changed for years: a rectangle that’s getting taller and narrower. Huawei chose the exact opposite direction, showing the Huawei Pura X View on August 20—a phone with a screen much wider than anything you can find in stores today. And importantly: it’s not a foldable. It’s a completely regular “monolith”, just with different proportions.
Why it’s wide and what it changes
The key figure is the aspect ratio 16:9.5. Typical phones today are around 20:9, which means a tall, narrow body. The Pura X View has a 6.39-inch OLED with a resolution of 2232 × 1320 pixels, so with the same diagonal it’s simply wider and shorter. In practice, it’s not just cosmetic. The wider format makes much more sense for reading web pages, viewing photos, and watching video in portrait orientation—even with two apps side by side.

Huawei also added bezels with a thickness of 1.05 mm all around, which means the display takes up 96.1 % of the front. The panel should handle peak brightness up to 6500 nits (with a 1% APL), a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and PWM dimming at 2160 Hz—something that should help people who are sensitive to screen flicker in the dark.
7000 mAh in a body that’s 6,68 mm thick
The second number worth paying attention to is the battery. In a body that’s only 6.68 mm thick and weighs 201 grams, Huawei managed to fit a cell with a typical capacity of 7000 mAh. That’s a capacity you’d find today mostly in thicker “battery-life” models, not in a phone that pretends to be a thin premium piece.

On the back, there’s a trio of cameras in an elongated module shaped like a racing oval. However, Huawei hasn’t revealed the exact sensor specs yet, nor the chip, memory size, or charging speed. That’s typical for Chinese announcements—the details will come with the official launch.
The debut of the final HarmonyOS 7
The Pura X View is also the first phone sold with the final version of HarmonyOS 7. The new system is more important for Huawei than it looks from the outside. It’s the one that needs to ensure apps “understand” the wide display and that the interface can adapt to a different screen shape.

This is where the biggest question mark of the whole project comes in. An unusual aspect ratio is always a risk: if app developers don’t support the format, the user ends up with black bars on the sides. In China, Huawei has a strong position to force support; outside the home market, it would be a much bigger problem.
Four colors and reservations that are already live
Web Notebookcheck noted that Huawei is already taking reservations on its Chinese platform, Vmall. The phone will be sold in four colors (Phantom Black, Zero White, Shadow Red, and Linen Grey), with preorders starting August 28, 2026. The manufacturer hasn’t announced the price yet.

The name isn’t random. Huawei Pura X from March 2025 was foldable and offered a wide screen only after unfolding. The View model proves you don’t need hinges or a double price for the same experience. But I wouldn’t bet on it being available in Europe. In recent years, Huawei has kept experiments like this mostly for the domestic market.
