A generous bundle full of accessories
Our RoboVac X8 Hybrid was delivered by the courier in a fairly large cardboard box measuring 51.5 x 42.5 x 32 cm. Inside, there was another box containing the vacuum itself, along with a paper insert to protect the inner packaging. The quality of the packaging is therefore excellent.
As for what’s included, the bundle is quite rich and also contains some extra accessories. Right after opening, you’ll find the user manual in a separate small box in the top section, along with a mop and replacement disposable cloths.
Under the thin outer box lid, you’ll find the vacuum wrapped in clear shrink film together with additional components. Of course, there’s also the charging station, a cable with an adapter, and you’ll also appreciate a spare filter that goes into the dust container, plus an extra three-armed brush. Unusual accessories include tightening straps for securing the charging-station cable routing.
Design and build quality
The RoboVac X8 Hybrid is sold only in black, with standard dimensions and a design similar to a typical robot vacuum with a laser sensor. The vacuum is glossy black on the top, with a branded design label. That also brings one downside: the dust and dirt on the vacuum itself are quite noticeable.
At first glance, it looks very robust as well, thanks to thicker bumpers around its perimeter. We evaluate the design very positively. As for build quality, it’s also at a very good level, but it doesn’t stand out from the standard in any way. The vacuum is made of plastic, but overall sturdiness is increased by the way the dust bin is mounted—it isn’t located under any top cover; instead, it slides out from the side edge.
The charging station is also black and is a classic small docking station with no container for automatically emptying the vacuum. What’s nice is the opening on the bottom side, where the connection port is located, along with space to hide a certain portion of the cable.
Placement of the components
The top part of the RoboVac X8 Hybrid has only the laser sensor, a trio of control buttons, and a status LED to show the WiFi connection state. The buttons are for turning the vacuum on/off, cleaning the current position, and returning to the charging station—and they are backlit.
The vacuum cleaner’s outer or side surfaces are covered with standard bumpers that help it detect obstacles. Several sensors are also located between them, and you need to keep them clean. If they get clogged, the app will let you know. Plus, as mentioned above, the dirt container also slides out from the side edge.
On the underside, you’ll find large rubberized wheels with a clear tread pattern, along with a rotating brush with bristles. It’s protected by a plastic cover that you can easily remove, giving access to the brush itself, which can also be taken out and cleaned.
There’s also no shortage of sensors designed to prevent falls down stairs, a three-brush broom, and a front swivel wheel.
Pairing with a smartphone
The RoboVac X8 Hybrid works with the Eufy Home app, which you can find in the Play Store. During testing, we also tested the nubia Z40 Pro, so for pairing we used this Chinese flagship.
The Eufy Home app requires registration. After completing it successfully and logging in, you’ll see a prompt to add a device. Several device types are available, including robot vacuum cleaners—where you just need to search for RoboVac X8 Hybrid. During testing, it was right at the top of the device list.
The app then searches for the vacuum cleaner and starts the pairing process, which takes no longer than 2 – 3 minutes. The entire process is fully automatic and requires no user intervention. When it’s done, you can choose the name of the vacuum cleaner you want to see in the app.
High suction power and a pair of turbines
RoboVac X8 Hybrid received an innovation award at last year’s CES 2021 conference, where it was also officially unveiled. The robot vacuum is recommended by many tech media outlets such as Techradar or Wired.
It stands out especially for its dual-turbine system, where each turbine delivers suction power of 2000 Pa—so overall the robot vacuum has suction power up to 4000 Pa, placing it among the very best. Compared to vacuums with a single turbine, it should be able to remove 57.6% more pet hair and improve airflow by up to 80%.
Thanks to two turbines, air with dirt is drawn in through openings on both sides, which you can see when you remove the dust container. Laser technology with route planning (iPath) takes care of navigation in space.
You’ll also like the BoostIQ technology, which automatically regulates suction power based on the surface being cleaned. To change suction strength, the vacuum needs only 1.5 seconds, which is a pretty solid response time.
First cleaning and its quality
As is traditional, the first time you start vacuuming is all about discovering the space and mapping the rooms in the app. The vacuum cleaner always begins its route around the room’s perimeter along the walls, where it then sweeps the entire room before moving on to the next one.
That’s how the map is gradually drawn in the app—we can see the route, as well as the vacuum cleaner’s current position and the charging station. After it finishes its work, the robot returns to the docking station and the map is saved in the Eufy Home app.
During our first vacuuming, we received a notification about a firmware update being available for the vacuum cleaner—but the odd part was that the update couldn’t be postponed to later. Since we didn’t want to update the firmware during our first run, we had to close the app and open it again to get rid of the offer.
To test cleaning performance, we spilled coffee, oats, and red lentils on the hard kitchen tile. We set the vacuum to the highest level and monitored its operation. Like other vacuums, RoboVac X8 Hybrid couldn’t remove absolutely all dirt on the first pass, but it handled the job very well. This is mainly because some debris is blasted back into the area that has already been cleaned using the rotating side brush.

The robot vacuum managed to remove all dirt only after the third cleaning, which isn’t anything unusual. Solid particles are a tougher challenge for robot vacuum cleaners than regular dust. In the photos below, you can see what the floor looked like after each of the three cleaning runs.
Basic app features and home screen
The vacuum cleaner’s home screen in the Eufy Home app offers all the basic controls, including the current room map. At the top, you’ll see information about the vacuum’s current status—whether it’s charging, fully charged, or actively vacuuming. This is complemented by the currently covered area in m2, the time since the activity started, and the battery status, which is shown only graphically, without a percentage value.
You can rotate, zoom in, or zoom out the map, and you can also edit it using the Edit Map button. At the bottom, you’ll find four cleaning modes, grouped by the area the vacuum will cover. The first option is Auto, where the vacuum will clean the entire map. The second option, Room, is for cleaning selected rooms; the third, Zone, is for cleaning a rectangular zone that you mark on the map; and the fourth, Spot, is for cleaning a specific spot on the map.
For Room, Zone, and Spot options, you can choose how many times the vacuum should go over each area. However, you only have two choices: once or twice.
The last elements on the vacuum’s home screen are suction intensity settings, a start button, and a button to return to the charging station. There are also four suction power levels: Pure, Power, Turbo, and Max. The additional BoostIQ option is used to enable automatic adjustment of suction power based on the type of surface.
Map management and runtime
The initial screen also includes an option to edit the current map. Here you’ll find options to split or merge rooms that the vacuum has recognized automatically. You can name each room as you like, but you can also leave them unnamed.
Another option is to reset the map or add so-called no-go zones (forbidden zones). This menu also includes virtual walls and prohibited zones for mopping.
RoboVac X8 Hybrid comes with a 5200 mAh battery, with the manufacturer claiming up to 180 minutes of runtime per charge. We tested the runtime in the second mode, Power, and before the battery fully drained, the vacuum managed to cover 114 m2 and took 121 minutes in total.
Settings menu
The app offers several customization options. The first is allowing multiple maps to be saved when cleaning multiple floors. RoboVac X8 Hybrid can remember multiple maps, and right after you turn it on it automatically selects the correct one based on the room it’s in.
The second settings item is scheduled cleaning, where you can set suction strength, the area you want it to vacuum, and also the time and days when cleaning should start automatically.
Tap n Go is a cleaning function for a small circular area, which we covered in the previous chapter. It’s also accessible from the vacuum’s home screen. Here you’ll also find manual vacuum control using directional buttons, a history of individual cleaning activities, and sharing settings with other users.
There’s also an option to enable automatic return to the charging station if the battery runs out, followed by continued cleaning. This function is not enabled by default. You’ll also find a Do Not Disturb mode, in which no sounds will play and the vacuum won’t return to the docking station after it runs out.
The mentioned sounds and voice prompts can run in different languages and at a certain volume, but you won’t find Slovak or Czech here. You may also like the display of the status of the vacuum’s individual components and the area unit settings (m2 or ft2).
Mopping quality test and noise level
To test the mopping function, in the evening we spread milk, cocoa, and water mixed with food coloring on the floor. In the morning, once the dirt had dried, we started cleaning with the robot vacuum repeatedly—three times.

The vacuum cleaner couldn’t remove stains perfectly even on the third attempt. However, it’s worth noting that this is extremely demanding for all robotic vacuum cleaners, because dried dirt isn’t enough to just pass over once—even with a manual mop; the floor needs to be scrubbed literally. The advantage is mostly with Viomi vacuums that support so-called Y-mopping, meaning they go over the same spots multiple times.
Unlike other vacuums, RoboVac X8 Hybrid offers only one mopping level, with no customization option. However, it’s roughly equivalent to the maximum level of typical vacuum cleaners, since the floor was sufficiently wet during mopping.
As for noise level, at the lowest power it stays around 58 dB. In Power mode it’s 62 dB, in Turbo mode 68 dB, and at maximum power 70 dB.
RoboVac X8 Hybrid: Final evaluation
RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a hassle-free robotic vacuum cleaner with a very nice and smooth operation. It features a pair of turbines that together deliver suction power of 4000 Pa, while mopping is also included. You get room-by-room map splitting, spot or zone cleaning, as well as no-go zones and virtual walls.
There are 4 suction levels, tiered by suction power, a 400 ml dustbin, and a 250 ml water tank integrated into the removable mop. During intensive testing, the vacuum worked extremely well and not once got stuck.
The only minor downside is probably the higher noise and the weaker mopping performance, but this is comparable to other robotic vacuums with a standard mop.
