On 3 June, a new model line branded Honor Play 4 was launched in its home country by Honor’s subsidiary company.

It consists of two models — Honor Play 4 5G and Honor Play 4 Pro 5G. Both smartphones offer a great price-to-performance ratio again, but they don’t really stand out from the crowd.
Base Honor Play 4 5G
Both smartphones offer mid-range or higher mid-range specs. The weaker sibling, Honor Play 4 5G, comes with specifications that fit perfectly into the mid-tier smartphone concept for year 2020.
For the base model, Honor Play 4 5G, there’s a 6.71″ Full HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) IPS LCD display. The top-left corner became home to a selfie camera in a punch-hole.
In terms of performance, the Honor Play 4 5G is powered by a capable mid-range processor MediaTek Dimensity 800 with 5G network support. Memory configurations are 6+128 GB and 8+128 GB.
Average cameras
The back features a quad-camera setup. The main 64 MPx sensor is joined by an 8 MPx wide-angle lens, plus a 2 MPx macro and a 2 MPx depth-sensing sensor.
The smartphone is cooled with VC liquid cooling, with heat handled by a 12-layer structure. The battery has a capacity of 4300 mAh and supports fast 22.5 W charging. There are 3 color options — Island Phantom, Phantom Blue, and Phantom Night Black.
The more powerful Honor Play 4 Pro 5G
The second model in the lineup is the Honor Play 4 Pro 5G. On the front, it has a large 6.81″ Full HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) IPS LCD panel, also with a punch-hole, but in this case it’s dual.
The front selfie sensors come as a main 32 MPx and a secondary 8 MPx sensor. Under the hood, this model uses a flagship-class processor, the Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 990, paired with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage.
The back houses two sensors — 40 MPx Sony IMX600 RYYB and an 8 MPx telephoto lens with 3x zoom. The built-in battery with a 4200 mAh capacity can be charged at up to a maximum power of 40 W.
A great thermometer feature
As we already wrote in the previous article, the more advanced Honor Play 4 Pro 5G model has received an interesting upgrade in the form of an IR thermometer.
It can measure the temperature within a few moments using a special sensor, in the range of -20 to 100 °C. Especially in today’s situation, this is a very useful feature.
Pricing matches the specs
The complete model lineup is currently available as pre-orders for home users. The prices for each model and its configuration are as follows:
- Honor Play 4 5G 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage at a price of 1 799 yuan = 226 € / 253 $
- Honor Play 4 5G 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage at a price of 1 999 yuan = 251 € / 281 $
