Do you own Amazfit watches and also feel that after switching to the Zepp app you’re not getting all notifications like before? We had a similar problem too, so we’re happy to share a guide on how to set up the Zepp app correctly.
We use the app with Amazfit GTR watches, which we’ve owned since they went on sale in the European market. Everything worked properly with the Amazfit app until it changed to Zepp. This guide will show you how to set it up on a Xiaomi phone. However, you can apply all the steps to any other Android smartphone too, the differences will be minimal.
Pairing Amazfit watches with the app
You can download the Zepp app from the official Google Play store. After successful installation, you need to sign in. There are several ways to sign in. We recommend using Mi account sign-in. Just enter your login details and after signing in, a Zepp account linked to your Mi account will be created.
On the Zepp app home screen, you’ll see a message saying that you haven’t added any device yet. If you click this message, the option to add a watch will open. We recommend not adding the watch via QR code, but waiting until the app finds the watch on its own. For this to work, Bluetooth must be turned on on your smartphone.
Choose a watch model; in our case, Amazfit GTR, and select the option “Watch without a QR code / Watches without a QR code”. Next, the app will search for watches nearby. You then select yours and pairing will start. After successful pairing, you’ll find the watch under your profile.
Notification settings in the Zepp app
Go to your profile in the app and select your paired watch. Here you need to turn on incoming calls and app notifications. The system will ask you for permission to access calls and notifications.
If you allow notifications from apps, you also need to choose which apps on your smartphone you want to receive notifications from. This step is important, otherwise you won’t get notifications. Do this in the menu “App alerts / App notifications” by clicking the “Manage apps / Manage apps” icon, which is located at the bottom.
Zepp app settings
In the next step, go back to the Zepp app, select your watch from the profile, and tap “Run in backgroud / Run in the background”. A new window will open, describing what you need to do.
Start with the first step. In section I. Autostart, click the “Background operation permission setting” button. The settings for app autostart will open. Select the Zepp app here to enable its automatic launch.
Go back and in Part II. Battery manager click the button “Background operation permission setting”, same as in the previous step. You’ll get back to the settings, where you should select right away the first option – No restrictions. With this step, we ensure that the Zepp app won’t be automatically turned off by the system.
Next, open the apps menu with your currently running apps. You can get there by pressing the square among the navigation buttons, or if you use gesture controls, swipe up with your finger.
Here, press and hold the Zepp app, which should bring up a simple menu. First select the lock, which ensures that the Zepp app won’t be closed when you close running apps.
Then choose the gear icon from this menu as well, which will take you to the Zepp app settings. Go to App permissions and Other permissions, and check whether everything necessary is enabled according to the screenshots below.
That’s it. These settings should be enough for the Zepp app to run without any issues, and at the same time you should receive on your watch all the notifications from the apps that you selected. If you still have any problems, try checking whether an update is available for the watch, or restart them, remove them from the app and pair again. Also make sure that you don’t have the “Do not disturb” mode enabled on your watch, marked with the moon symbol.
