Lately, we’ve been seeing a lot in the smartphone space and the gear from various manufacturers, all trying to bring innovation in the fastest possible charging. Even though Chinese Xiaomi is not far behind its powerful adapter, iQOO still beat it to the punch.
Ultra-fast 120 W charging
Renowned iQOO, just recently at its conference, introduced ultra-fast 120 W charging. This makes it the first manufacturer to claim that its new charging adapters are ready for mass production.
At the presentation, they also highlighted how quickly the charger can top up a smartphone with a 4000 mAh battery. From 0 to 50%, you’ll be up and running in just 5 minutes, and the battery will be fully charged in under 15 minutes.

Such powerful charging also comes with certain risks tied to high temperature. A smartphone with 120 W charging will be cooled with liquid cooling, which should keep the temperature at stable levels.
At the conference, they also explained the charging method. A 4000 mAh battery consists of two separate branches with a capacity of 2000 mAh each, which are charged at 5V / 12A (60W). In total, this gives the final charging output of 120 W.
According to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, a smartphone with 120 W charging support is already in production. The leaker claims to have tracked the development of the whole situation for a long time and recorded information about a new charging technology that can charge the battery to 80% in just a few minutes.
We can expect the debut smartphone with ultra-fast charging as early as August this year. It’s also possible that the mobile phone will be powered by an Snapdragon 865 Plus processor. Further leaks suggest it could be the expected iQOO Pro 3 5G.
