Vivo X300 Pro almost toppled the chart king: DXOMARK gave it 2nd place, and in video it goes head to head with the 17 Pro iPhone

Vivo X300 Pro has just jumped into the DXOMARK ranking at #2 globally, right behind Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, and it even beat Oppo Find X8 Ultra and Apple iPhone 17 Pro in the overall standings. And now comes the juicy part: in the actual video, Vivo X300 Pro is practically neck-and-neck with the iPhone 17 Pro; in fact, according to DXOMARK, it’s currently the best Android for video.

When photos lost, but video launched like a rocket

What’s interesting is that Vivo didn’t win „for photos“, but rather for balance—and especially for video. DXOMARK gave it a total score of 171 points, with the photo score being 171 and the video score 169. If you compare it to the Vivo X200 Ultra, which is also extremely strong, you can see the difference in philosophy right here. The X200 Ultra has a slightly higher photo score, but the X300 Pro made a huge leap in video, scoring 169 points versus 156 for the X200 Ultra. In other words: if you’re the type who records more video than photos, X300 Pro is exactly the upgrade that actually makes sense.

DXOMARK for the Vivo X300 Pro repeats a few things that are crucial for real-world use. Supposedly, exposure stays stable, dynamic range is wide, and the phone handles high-contrast scenes without your faces dropping into darkness or the sky turning into a white blot. Big praise also goes to color and white balance—especially for skin tones, which look natural in both photos and video. It’s also important that detail stays high across conditions, and at the same time in photos there’s almost no noise, which is still rare nowadays amid aggressive processing.

And then there’s the telephoto lens, which is one of the main arguments for the X300 Pro. 200 MPx periscope telephoto with roughly 3.7x optical zoom is exactly the kind of hardware that either turns your phone into a zoom beast—or ends up as just paper specs. According to DXOMARK, Vivo nailed the right balance here, because tele and zoom are among its top strengths—and in these subcategories it even takes the highest ratings.

If you love portraits, this is where the Vivo X300 Pro racks up some really impressive points. DXOMARK highlights the natural bokeh effect and—most importantly—the segmentation, meaning how precisely the phone separates a person from the background.

In practice, that’s exactly what makes the difference between a „cheap cut-out“ and a portrait that genuinely looks like it came from a bigger sensor. Based on the evaluation, background blur is convincing and transitions look natural—typically the thing people want most in portrait mode.

Video duel with iPhone: why this is a big deal?

When people say “the best mobile video”, many instantly think iPhone, because Apple has been promoting it for years. That’s exactly why it’s interesting that Vivo X300 Pro placed right after the iPhone 17 Pro model in the DXOMARK video category. Vivo benefits here from a mix of stable exposure, wide dynamic range, pleasing colors, fast autofocus, and especially very effective stabilization.

DXOMARK also mentions support for multiple modes, including 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps, plus HDR with Dolby support. That sounds great, but there’s a catch: the classic reality. HDR video shows its “wow” side fully only on an HDR display, and platforms often play it back differently depending on what you’re watching it on.

What did DXOMARK criticize about the Vivo X300 Pro smartphone?

To make sure it’s not just praise, X300 Pro also has some weak spots that are worth knowing about before you buy it as a perfect photo phone. DXOMARK mentions contrast issues in strong backlit HDR scenes, occasional artifacts like ghosting, color fringing, or texture errors in demanding situations. It also says the ultra-wide camera has a relatively narrower field of view than some competitors, which you can feel when traveling and in architecture shots.

Another interesting detail: with people who have darker skin, the phone sometimes makes the skin a little lighter and less natural. Plus in low light, slightly “unnatural” details may appear—often related to AI sharpening or texture reconstruction.
